Anyone know how to get rid of fungus gnats?

I brought home a plant from home depot that had them living in the soil and now all our houseplants have them. Stupid little black flying bugs. They aren't damaging our plants but I can't get rid of them.

I've tried putting white wine in a shot glass next to each plant...hasn't really worked.

Those are the worst. It's very hard to get rid of them. Try getting a spray bottle & fill it with water, a couple drops of dish soap & a capful of alcohol. That's what a plant expert neighbor of mine had suggested. It kinda worked for us but we were TOTALLY infested (btw, there are some plants that won't get them, not sure why but we had certain plants that were fine).

There is also stuff you can find at a nursery that kills them but it's VERY toxic to your skin & you shouldn't breath it in. It's one of those things that you should do outside so if you have a bunch of plants that's a real pain.

Another suggestion is buy new potting soil & repot them, make sure to get as much of the old soil off the root ball as possible w/out breaking the roots. We eventually killed them off after using all three methods but they are a PAIN! Good luck!!!

I also suggest quarantining new plants until you know their clear so you don't run the risk of infesting other plants. Yes, I know, not much of a help now! :)
