Via a friend at church, I found out tonight there is a 10 year old boy living in subsidized housing that lost all of his belongings, including furniture, in a house fire recently. He is sleeping on the living sofa currently. Red Cross has offered some assistance, and the principal of his school collected gift cards, so they were able to get some clothing. However, they are still in need of some boyish furniture for his room and some things to make him feel at home. He is a good student and likes to play football.

Please PM me if you are interested in donating furniture or otherwise.

    Thank you!

He lives with his mom. My friend is trying to find out if he has siblings, but she doesn't think so.

We found out the mom has two other boys, ages 5 and around 7 or 8. My friend is going to speak directly with the mother tonight to find out exactly what they need, so I will post once I know more. Thanks for everyone's concern and interest.

We are actually getting ready to have a garage sale and we would love to donate a twin bed and some dressers we were going to sell if we can. That broke our hearts because we have a ten year old. We'll see what else we can put together too.

I have a little more information...the fire was electrical. So far, we have secured one bed and dresser. We are checking to see if her other two sons also need replacements mattresses due to smoke damage. My friend is going to the mom's house tomorrow to see exactly what their needs are. We think she may be underestimating what their needs truly are b/c she does not want to ask for much. However, there may be more things that need to be replaced that didn't necessarily burn, but are ruined due to smoke damage.

They had to replace all of their clothes due to smoke damage, so I am sure they could still use some clothing. My friend is going to find out the sizes tomorrow. I am thinking sweatshirts, sports jerseys, shorts for spring/summer, swimsuits, cool t-shirts, etc. Again, ages are 5, 7, and 10, but we don't know the sizes yet.

We also are checking to see if she needs bedding for all four, including mattress pads, sheets, comforters, pillows.

The 10 yr old was very into sports, so we are also checking to see if he needs a basketball and a football.

He could still use a bookcase, nightstand, and a lamp.

Sorry this info is strung out, but this is how it usually unfolds in a situation such as this. Please bear with me, and I will post again tomorrow.

    Thanks!

I am thinking some shorts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, windpants, pajamas, swim suits, etc.

    A football
    A basketball
Sports-related stuff (he likes basketball and football)
    Nightstand
    Lamp

    Household needs:
    4 NEW pillows
    Twin sheets
    Twin comforters

I will check on the football spikes and size. We made a big delivery of goods to the family today including two donated beds...a special thanks to all who so generously donated money, clothing, bedding, etc.

We are speaking again to the mom tomorrow to find out what else they need. I don't think they have any comforters or blankets for the beds and may still need that. Someone (I won't mention any names...but thank you for your generosity!) is buying new sheets, pillows, mattress pads, and towels/washcloths.

They are pretty set for clothing the mom said at this point.

I'll post again tomorrow once I find out what their other needs might be.

THANK YOU AGAIN! This community is full of warmhearted, generous souls!

didn't see this until now, but when I was ~10 my house burned down while we were away at thanksgiving and I remember the community giving my mom (and I) lots of stuff and some nice people even got me Legos... very nice to hear of the kindness in this community as well!
