I want to install a garage door opener, I do not think I have the right tools to do that. Any recommendations?

    Thanks,

They're not hard to install, you'll just need a helper. And Home Depot is right down the road if you don't have the tools you need directly at hand. If you buy them now, you'll use them again, trust me.

You could also Pay Home Depot or Lowes to have it installed - usually not that unreasonable. Also there are professional garage door companies that can usualy schedule something sooner. I used Academy Garage door - got the Belt dirve model for like $400 dollars including remotes and keypad. Well worth it as I laid up with a broken foot.

We were told that you can void your warranty (1year) if you have someone install an opener. We used the company VM uses if you had bought a garage door opener at the time of purchase. They were very reasonable and did a great job.

I don't believe so, that would be like saying you couldn't install fans in the fan ceiling boxes you paid for. I installed my two openers myself, and nary got a peep out of them !!

I installed a garage door opener on a van metre home. I could not attach door bracket provided with the opener and am having a hard time in finding an alternate hardware. I tried homedeopt/lowes without any success. I came up with a crappy fix to it. Don't know how long it will hold.

The manual suggests that the lightweight garage doors(fiberglass, aluminium, steel doors with glass panel, etc.) need horizontal and vertical reinforcements. I believe ours is an aluminium door with glass panels. Do I need to reinforce the doors as suggested before installing the openers? Has anyone done that before?

    thanks

I installed mine fairly easy. Had to buy some extra metal brackets for mounting the motor head section. For the header bracket above the garage door itself I just mounted it to a block of wood I put up with heavy wood screws. Although it says you need at least 2 people to put up everything I did it all myself with 2 ladders. Running the electronic controls took the most time.

Mounting header bracket above the door was fine. I had problems with mounting the door bracket. The door has a steel vertical support on which I need to mount the door bracket. The steel support has threaded holes. The space between any two holes is not consistant with the ones on the different hardware I tried. So I had to fasten the bracket using only one screw.

I had Home Depot install it. I believe it was around $100 and he was done in about an hour. I've had no problems with it.
