I got my son a Gas Scooter for X-mas and up until now I've been able to take care of the repairs/maintenance. Does anyone know of a shop in the area that does gas scooter repairs? I've looked/called all over, and am having no luck. Thanks

Any small-engine/lawnmower repair shop should be able to handle it...they're pretty much the same motor.

You're right, but no one does it. They say they can't get the parts.

What does the manufacturer say? What about the place where you got it? Is it still under any sort of warranty?

It was ordered over the internet. Basically from what I'm learning these things are mass produced over seas, and marketed under different names over here. (His is called Razorback, the same thing could be called something else from a different distributor.) Anyway the only thing that they are good for is selling replacement parts. They don't supply any input on repairs. It came with a one month warranty, which has expired. I did call every small engine repair place in the area, and they basically don't wotk on them

Sounds like an entrepreneurial opportunity. I would contact Monroe Technology Center with Loudoun County Public Schools. They have a vocational tech program and if some student is willing to look into it this a great small business opportunity given the many gas and electric powered scooters sold in the area.

It starts up O.K., but when he adjusts the choke, it either dies or runs sluggish, and eventually dies. Basically, no power.
I have a few idea's that I'm going to try tonight. This happened once before, and what I found was that my son did not mix the oil/gas to the right ratio. This time he assures me that he did. We'll see.

Desn't really sound like a 'replacement parts' issue, just a performance/tuning issue. I'd bet if you take the motor off the scooter and took it into a small engine repair shop, they'd fix it right up. :)

That being said, death to two-cycle engines. Drain it and try some carburator cleaner in all the valves.

    DAD4,

Since at one point in time you had a 'bad' mixture going through that engine, take a look at the spark plug(s). If the bad mixture was on the 'oil' side, then it could have gunked-up the plug(s)

Your engine is running rich which is causing your spark plug to foul out.Make the adjustment to the choke, replace the spark plug ,dump the old gas and mix a new oil/gas to the proper ratio. Do not use carburator cleaner this will cause chunks of carbon to break loose from the top of the piston and wedge between the cylinder wall and the piston, that will destroy your engine.
