I LOVE the newish tool on iTunes - Genius.

With over 10,000 songs in my music library, making playlist was a bit of a task.

Now I just need to push the'Genius' tool to get some pretty great playlist.

    Me likely, ALOT.

It's pretty good but it still needs some work. I get some really odd playlists sometimes and I've tried a few artists that it actually couldn't make lists off of yet. But every time I sync my Itunes it gets better.

use pandora instead, then you get recommendations without owning the music either :)

100k songs in iTunes? How do you even use it.. unless you are doing search, even at 30k songs, iTunes is a PIG and takes ages to open/close.. let alone its memory footprint.

I find Itunes very complicated to use even for IT people.

I TOTALLY agree. I got my first iPod in May (I had a Sony MP3 player previously and used Sonic Stage for my downloads) and I have to tell you that I'm still pretty rudimentary at using iTunes. And I spend most of my life on the computer running all sorts of programs and applications to do my job. I get befuddled very often. The Help function totally STINKS and I end up Googling problems and getting three or four different answers which I then have to try. I've been suffering in silence and embarassment. Thanks for the group therapy!

iTunes is not the simplistic intuitive SW that Apple believes it to be (while the IPod SW is). However, I've tried Media Player and others and iTunes has them beat, surprisingly enough. There are iTunes alternatives out there if you want to try them.

For me, I keep it simple -- don't let iTunes manage your files (by default it moves them and renames the files), use smart playlists to automatically create playlists, and auto synch based on playlists. Oh yea, I don't use iTunes to purchase music, I either buy the CD (weird I know) or use Amazon or Walmart to purchase MP3's w/o DRM and cheaper.

itunes + is DRM free.. and through this year most of iTMS music should be DRM free.

The iTunes store is good - iTunes itself as a library tool stinks.
