Did anyone notice the new toll rate on Greenway ?
$5.25 for one way toll (for the 6:30-am9 am, and 4-6:30pm)
I commute to Rockville everyday, it costs me $12.5 per day (including the toll in Dulles), not counting $ for my gas.
    This is ridiculous!!!

Is that just the Greedway or the total for Greedway/|Toll Road?

The "fleecing" just amazes me and yet another reason why roadways should not be sold to a private company. This makes me so MAD.

in fairness... the greenway was not sold.. it was built private.

What peeves me is that the government refuses to force them to compete by granting them a monopoly on E/W movement because they won't build public routes to service the same needs.

The solution was 'outsourced' as a single solution and instead of being a 'alternative' it's become virtually the only solution.

Don't get me started on the Greenway. A more aptly named road there never was since it is paved with money.

It may take me an hour longer and cost more in gas but I refuse to give that foreign company 1 red cent.

It seems to me there was a LOCO supervisor candidate that was running on the platform that he would do something about the toll. I thought that alone would sweep him into office but it alas it didn't.

So until someone does something, I will gladly drive Waxpool even if I have to wait in traffic. Because nothing really gets me madder when you pay to wait in traffic on the Greenway.

Your anger should be directed at the state not the owners of The Greenway. It is a private corporation that will charge what the market will bear. You have other options. I for one, like thae Greenway and use it when it is more convienent and I am willing to pay for that convienence.

If you're outraged about the Greenway, what they're doing on the beltway is even worse.

Politicians are primarily in the business of getting reelected, so they'll give any company anything it wants in exchange for campaign contributions and claim the two are unrelated. Just the way the world is.

Yes it was sold.. but not in the context of the original post :) It was sold between private parties - not a government road sold to private parties.

I'll ask again, in case someone knows:

Is that just the Greedway or the total for Greedway/|Toll Road?

I went throw the main Greedway toll booth this morning around 7:15, exiting for the airport. Toll was $4.50. Outrageous! (but I get to expense it)

I sent a letter to Congressman Wolf's Chief of Staff Mr. Dan Scadling earlier today. I received a (almost immediate) telephone call from him. During our call he requested that I send him 2-3 months of our monthly activity so the #s I cited in my letter could be verified.

This is the text of my original email:

    Daniel Scandling <daniel.scandling@#%#.XXXDS.gov>

    Dear Mr. Scandling,

I recently became aware of Congressman Wolf's continued efforts in an attempt to help his constituents who use the Dulles Greenway. I have read the letter Congressman Wolf sent to the Virginia Transportation Secretary, Mr. Sean Connaughton.

While I greatly appreciate Congressman Wolf's tone and agree with the message in his letter a few things continue to concern me. I have listed the issues below for you and hope my input will be beneficial to your office.

    1) Starting July 1, 2010 the Dulles Greenway actually charges commuters $5.25 for a one way toll (AM morning rush hour rate 6:30-9:AM and PM rush hour 4:00-6:30PM. Not the $4.50 cited in his letter. As a household who has 2 commuters our family spends the following: $10.50 (Dulles Greenway) x 2 + $2.25 (Dulles Toll Road) x 2, which equals a daily cost of $25.50. I will be happy to provide you our monthly invoice of charges to validate the numbers I have shared.

    2) Another fact that is often overlooked is the increased incremental charges from VDOT for account holders of an EZ-Pass/Smart Tag system. For example my household is charged $150 three times a month, granted this is in line with our frequency of the Greenway/Dulles Toll Road usage. But none the less it is a significant financial hit to our monthly budget.

    3) The lack or inability for the Dulles Greenway owners to use a tiered or metered toll. For example we enter/exit the Dulles Greenway at Exit 6 (Ashburn/Broadlands). We only utilize about 51% of the 14 mile toll road, however we are being charged at a 100%. This seems unbalanced, especially when you factor in other toll roads who actually charge per the distance traveled.

I understand it is our "choice" to use the Dulles Greenway, however with the increased road congestion of primary and secondary roads within the Ashburn/Broadlands area, there are little options. Either we can add an additional 30 minutes (each way) to our daily commutes or we can spend (a collective) $22.50 a day.

Again I appreciate Congressman Wolf's continued efforts to assist his constituents, but the egregious fleecing of Ashburn/Broadlands commuters must end. Families similar to mine are spending nearly $450 a month in tolls, the majority of which is going to the Dulles Greenway.

In this economic climate my family is lucky enough to have both of us working, but using or not using the Dulles Greenway means we are sacrificing either our time or enduring an hefty financial burden.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.

    Regards,

    Erika M. Hodell-Cotti

I would strongly suggest that folks send an email to Congressman Wolf's office and send a Letter to the Editor.
