Can you tell me where I can get a good professional salon cut. It's time for a good cut and style. Also considering highlights. Can someone give me a ballpark dollar amount for that and what's involved with upkeep? What if you decide you can't keep up with the color, do you have to dye it back? Never had highlights before, so excuse the dum questions please. ;-)

Try natural color partial highlights, only 2-3 shades lighter than your natural color and only on the top and sides. The upkeep is much easier, you can go months before retouching. I go to Stephanie at Eclips but they're not cheap. Cut and highlights upwards of $150.

I go to Alex at Radiance (Ashburn location). I love her! When its all said and done, I'm around $160 for a cut and highlights (GENERALLY includes the tip, unless I do something else..). I go every 8 weeks for a touchup, but shes so good usually I can get away with a glaze instead of having to pay for highlights every time.

    52 weeks in a year -
    Go every 8 weeks so that's 6-7 times a year -
    $160 each visit -
$1050 or so per year for hair coloring/highlighting

I'm not making a judgment call, just doing the math. I'm also considering beginning the highlighting game (get that grey OUT!) so it's interesting to learn the cost involved.

Ive been burned in the past by going to cheaper salons, my hair is naturally light so any wrong doing will cause blonde to go orange. Personally Id rather pay for an expensive haircut, then pay later to have a cheap one fixed. I know its a lot of money, but its worth it to me.

i get a partial highlight about 3-4 times a year. in the summer my hair gets highlighted naturally by the sun (not sure how blonde you are, but you may want to factor this in). i touch up between highlights with a type of glaze/gloss that i do at home. it makes the roots not a noticeable. when my highlights have the right amount of lowlights then i don't need much touching up at all between visits (like krmckee said - don't go too drastic!). i usually pay about $115-125 for a partial highlight. haircut is extra. i have also been burned by "cheaper" salons!

I go to Carrie Klemp at Hairport Salon and Day Spa. She's awesome!! The cost is really based on how long your hair is, but my cuts are around $55 and when I got highlights with a cut, it was usually around $120-$130 if I recall correctly (I get full color now instead of highlights and it's around $140-$150 with a cut).

I also go to Radiance in Ashburn for my maintenance, and for hair I can highly recommend Jen. However, if you want an awesome facial, ask for Mindy, she is the best.

And the prices mentioned are right in the ballpark, I pay 100 for color and 50 for cut. The nice thing at Radiance is that when you go for your hair and they have openings for example for nails, you can get manicures and pedicures with a nice discount, or even facials.
