Is the Events Committee meeting tonight at 7:30? The committee page on the website says that the committee meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7:30. Just want to make sure it is still happening. If so, I will be there.

I know they met on August 18th, so I'm not too sure they stick to their 'first Tuesday of the month' rule...

meetings change base on schedules of those unable to attend on the appointed date- there is no meeting scheduled for tonight.

you should contact the chairman directly... :)

Saw that too. I thought it was quite ironic.

I wonder what year that foto is from...looks like one guys in a Buzz Lightyear costume, so I'd be guessing 1995- 1996.

We didn't buy a Buzz Lightyear costume until this millennium and the kids still wear it on occasion so it could have been much more recent.

Not trying to make a "statement of fact" just taking a guess. The Tech committee can probably answer the question which year best!

That picture was put in there as part of the website redesign, so I would say 2005, maybe 2006...

I remember last year seeing at least a couple little Buzz's coming through our area to get some Dippin'Dots...

The irony in this entire thread is crazy.

The top graphic was from 2004. There were a LOT of people. Here is our history from the tech committee view, can give you a sense of how many people went. Keep in mind the vast majority of handouts we give are just to kids.

    2003
    [IMG]
Here is a movie from 2003 showing the crowd.

    2004
The tech committee handed out about 375 glow lights and necklaces (small glow sticks)
    Parade movie for 2004
    [IMG]

    2005
The tech committee handed out over 400 glow necklaces. It was also our first year for arranging the face painter.

    2006
The tech committee handed out about 350 packages of freeze dried 'space' ice cream. We again arranged the face painter for the kids.

    2007
The tech committee handed out just under 300 fiber optic flashlight wands. We again arranged the face painter for the kids. We also have a shot at a smoky tunnel.

    2008
The tech committee handed out around 300 cups of dippindots ice cream. Our face painter had the wrong time and didn't make this one. (oops)

Your super heroes who handed out the ice cream (and our fearless leader not in the photo as well).

wow- pictures are worth a thousand words... it looks like a very cool event that look a lot of coordination to put on. kudos to all of you who worked on that!

i agree this thread got nuts. now that there is a group of folks interesting in saving the parade, who knows what some motivated, involved residents can achieve...? I hope it works folks- that really does look like a memorable event worth saving.

Spoke to Wes today. It should be relatively easy to get this event back this year, if we get the volunteers to run it. The Tech Committee has money in their budget for some of the prizes and I believe the Events Committee has some money left over.
We have until Sept. 15 to get an ad in the October Newsletter.
All we need are the bodies to staff it. Hopefully someone who has volunteered in the past cam help out with the logistics and knowing how many people are needed.

I'll volunteer to help with the Halloween Parade. I can't tell who's in charge! We always went, it was always packed, and we loved it.

Everyone interested in volunteering for a Halloween parade Sunday October 25, please email me ASAP. s u n n y AT smartneighborhood DOT net Or me call me 571-333-0695. Please forward this to anyone who might have fun doing this event. THANKS!

The events chairperson (it is her first year, btw)does an AWESOME job of putting together all of our events and works tirelessly and thanklessly for all of her time and effort. No one stepped forward on this (there are already have TWO other Halloween events...). I talked to the chair and she is able to juggle the budget a bit and can make the parade happen- what a flexible person!!! I mean they plan this stuff months in advance so I am sooooo grateful she is able to do this!!

There are really not enough volunteers for a lot of events in the community, but it is so fun to plan them- so I am glad there are some people in this thread willing to participate:) Can't wait to hear from all of you!

Yes, there are not enough volunteers for the events. I hope we get enough for this, count the tech committee in for our stuff at the end of the line. I'll email you. There can be a positive light for this - hopefully people will now volunteer more for these types of events and they wont get canceled because not enough people show up at meeting to volunteer to run them. So join the events committee, help out! :)
