Weren't there $1.99 specials at Harris Teeter for subs every day? Every day it's a different sub... Today I went in and now all the specials are 2.99. I didn't know if it varied by location. I did go in to the Broadlands Teeter in the last two weeks and I could have sworn they were 1.99, but at the Ashburn Village Teeter, they were 2.99.
So, not sure if the price varies by location or what.
By the way, the barcodes on the subs ring up as the special price regardless of what the special sub is that day. Something I figured out accidentally at the self check out.
2.99 is still a pretty good deal, but 1.99 sounds so much more exciting :D

They were still 1.99 on Tuesday - that's where I got my lunch!

too bad everything else in the store is like 30%+ more expensive then everywhere else. I'm convinced HT's theory is just win the convenience war by building as many as possible and then charge out the wahzoo.

I mean when I need to buy something that costs 2.99 at Wegmans, and costs 3.99 at HT for dry package goods.. it's a rip-off. And it's not just one thing - it's everything.

Steve, everything? Come on, your exaggerating. I've found excellent deals at HT via their sale items. Somethings are more expensive then Wegman's but not "everything".

Everything I normally buy is more expensive there... and not by .10 or .20. I'm talking 30-50% per item.

Be it a 2L bottle of soda, to drink mix, to a bag of chips, loaf of bread, etc. The only one I haven't seen stand out to me is Milk.

I cringe anytime I convince myself to go in there. Literally, the price gap is 30% and up. It's insane.

yeah not counting the on sale/loss-leader items, things are pretty expensive there.... it seems in general wegmans is cheaper....

idea for a web site: put in the list of items you want and it would tell you where to get them all the cheapest, or tell it how many stores you want to go to to get all the items and it would optimize it by that... of course stores aren't going to give you their items lists, or they would do what the mattress places do and change the name/upc/etc of the item so you can't easily comparison shop. *sigh*

It's not free, but for a couple bucks a week The Grocery Game does a pretty good job of letting you know when's the right time to buy items at local stores.

My Harris Teeter receipt this week was $70 for $120 worth of groceries. I've done as much as saving 50%.

Oh, and not to sound like a Harris Teeter stock holder or anything, they do contribute a lot to our local schools. Mill Run made $1000 through their VIC card links last year. HT also donated over 1000 hotdogs and hamburgers, sodas, water, & chips plus the grill & staff to cook it up for Mill Run's open house in August.

They're a good neighbor. Yeah, they're doing it for my business but I don't have a problem giving it to them.
