Home Inspector?

    Can anyone give a recommendation for a good home inspector? I'm looking for one who does NOT work in conjunction with a realtor. That is, I want someone who will give me an honest, detailed assessment of what's in good shape and what needs repair on a potential home.

    The home inspectors I've used in the past seemed to perform inspections so as not to be a "deal breaker."

    I always call Home-pro at 703-560-4663. I ask for someone with over 5 yrs with their company and ask them to pick who they send. That way no one can ever suspect that I have a agreement with the inspector not to blow a deal.

    I highly recommend Gary Cox. I did the same in hiring my own inspector with the purchase of my current house. He inspected two houses for me - one with lots of problems and one with few problems. I called him back with questions months later and he came to our house for free. I've been through the process 4 times in Va and he was the most thorough and the most knowledgeable.

    I've known the people there (2 inspectors, small business) for about 15 years now and they are ASHI certified and aren't steered to by realtors.
