A gunman holding an employee hostage at an Exxon gas station on the Loudoun County Parkway near the Dulles Greenway has been captured.

The man had apparently tried to rob the store earlier in the day and took a female clerk hostage when police showed up. During the standoff, he dragged the woman outside with a gun to her head at least twice.

Loudoun County Sheriff Steve Simpson told 9 News "it appears he wants us to know he has her and that he's in control."

A little after 8 p.m., the gunman brought the hostage outside again. This time, police tackled him, although their method for capturing him still isn't clear.

It appears his hostage is safe and unharmed, but we're awaiting official word from the Sheriff's Office.

The Loudoun County Parkway has been closed at the Greenway for several hours.

"Loudoun County, Virginia- A hostage situation at an Ashburn gas station ended Monday night with the suspect fatally wounded.

The man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of family, walked into the Flagstaff Plaza Exxon gas station on Loudoun County Parkway around 4:40 PM. It is unclear at this time as to his motivation. The man took a female cashier hostage and held her for several hours.

During the course of the evening members of the Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team attempted to contact the man. Several times the phone inside the store was called and would be subsequently disconnected. At one point in the evening negotiators did speak to the suspect who made statements that he would kill himself and the hostage.

Around 8:15 PM the suspect walked out with the victim with a weapon near her head. Deputies observed that the victim had blood on her shirt and injuries to her neck. At that time a member of the Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team took action and discharged one round from his weapon.

The female victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At this time members of the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Investigators remain on the scene.

More information will be released on Tuesday or as it becomes available.

Funny how some womans life is in danger, and we can only think of how we are "inconvenienced".

I don't read Chsalas' post as saying that their inconvenience is the "only" thing they could think of. Your post seems a bit inflammatory and unproductive.

And besides, although the woman's life was in danger, she was fine (non life-threatening injuries) by the time Chsalas made the post.

I can't imagine how terrifying it must have been to have gone through that.
Kudos to the sheriffs dept for putting an end to it.

What's really funny is how someone can read into a message and massage out whatever they want to.
