Being Room Mom for my child's class we are about to create December ornaments (can also hang on a door if the family does not choose to hace a Christmas tree) with a child's small circle photo. I thought of making snowflakes with two pieces of paper with the photo in the middle, showing through the front. But can't find the snowflakes, except in foam. Snowflakes as a general seasonal idea.

Does any crafty lady or man out there know an easy low maintenance way to create these keepsakes with 3-5 year olds? Maybe I am on the wrong track.

    HELP!

Can you do some simple trimming to paper doilies to turn them into snowflakes and glue the photo in the middle?

I know this doesn't help but as someone who does not celebrate Christmas, I *hate* when my kids come home with ornaments.

We don't have a tree - we have never had a tree and we will never have a tree. They are not a part of our religious or cultural heritage.

Telling me to hang them on a door just TO ME shows insensitivity. Ornaments are INTENDED to be hung on Christmas trees. It makes my job harder as a parent to yet again explain to my kids that we don't have a tree and yes, you worked hard on it and I love your photo (even the one where the teacher put you in a Santa hat before taking it) and your handprint is so cute but no, I'm not going to dispaly it anywhere.

It is possible to come up with a craft or keepsake that includes everyone instead of yet again emphasizing that yes, you live here and are part of the community but no, you really aren't.

Wow...bitter. By definition, an ornament is a small decorative object or anything that enhances the appearance of a person or thing. It's not something that HAS to be hung on a tree. Walk into my parent's house and one would find *ornaments* EVERYWHERE and all year long--not just during the holidays. Telling your kid, yeah, yeah, nice hand print but we ain't displaying it anywhere is pretty insensitive. Okay, so the picture of your child with the santa hat might have overstepped it. Why not just put it up on the refrigerator? A snowflake keepsake does not reflect any religion or culture. Sometimes, acknowledging your child's hard work is one thing, but also displaying something they are proud of makes the difference...

Instead of trying to make one size fit all why not offer to share your cultural heritage in the classroom?
