Hummingbird

We replaced our old feeder (which seemed to leak) with this one and after 2 days had a hummingbird. Kim made the food herself.

This was captured using Vitamin D and an Axis P1344 (7-70mm f1.8 lens).

Wonderful! I have a feeder as well but haven't seen a hummingbird so far. I really enjoy all of your wildlife footage. Thanks for posting!

I've tried the last few years and have never seen one. I get the premade mix at Walmart. The regular birds do like the normal feeder. They will eat almost as fast as I can put the seed in.

It is fun...stuff I could not do in an apartment.

 

We have them and I have made homemade food in the past, very easy to make. I gave up though because every time I hang mine, a squirrel drains it in less than an hour. They either climb up the pole and drink it or pull the entire feeder down. I saw one last night fly over our patio and hover near my petunias before flying off.

 

We have a "torpedo" on the hummingbird feeder, and another on the bird feeder. Have not seen a squirrel on the bird feeder since we added it.

Once hummers find a feeder they will often return again and again and usually will nest nearby.

We take the feeder down every evening because of the raccoons and put it back before dawn as this is when they are actively searching for nectar.

I use a small feeder with 4 ports that holds one third cup of nectar. This way it's not being wasted when I change it out every 2-3 days and the feeder is simple to clean. It has a perch so they can rest while feeding and makes observing them more enjoyable.

 

I have my feeder hanging on my kitchen window off my deck. I get Hummingbirds every year and they will even come feed when we are sitting out on the deck. They are fun to watch! Oh, and I make my own food also, changing it every couple of days.
