Does anyone know why there is not a conspicuous sign to VA-267 East(the Greenway towards Dulles and DC) on Claiborne Parkway when coming out of Broadlands? The only identifier is a tiny sign, behind some trees, that is barely visible until you're practically past the exit.

There are clear signs for both VA-267 East and West when coming the opposite direction from Ashburn Farm, and a similarly clear sign for VA-267 West towards Leesburg when coming out of Broadlands. Why no such sign for Broadlands visitors heading back towards Dulles and DC?

Your question was forwarded to Wes Schroeder, General Manager for Broadlands. Wes contacted Greg Peters, who works for the developer, and then e-mailed the message below. If you, or anyone else perusing this forum, calls Trip II, please post their response here.

    Wes Schroeder wrote:
Greg gave me the following information. The company that maintains/handles the Greenway is called Trip II at (703) 707-8870. He also passed along the name of a person he thinks is still there (Rick
Froehlich). The gentleman's number is (703) 706-9123. Thus, I get the feeling since it is a private road, these are the appropriate people to contact. Greg said that there is no reason he knows why there shouldn't be one.

I contacted the Dulles Greenway via email and received the following reply:

"The placement of the signage you're referring to is the responsibility of Broadlands. The road you are referring to does not belong to the Dulles Greenway nor VDOT (va. dept of trans). We have in the past, given Broadlands the drawing for proper signs so we are aware of the request/inquiry you are referring to.

If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

    Sincerely,
    Daniel Sullivan
    Marketing/Public Relations Manager
    Dulles Greenway"

So, as I thought might be the case, it's Broadlands responsibility for proper signage in this particular spot. And I am apparently not the first to raise this issue. How do we get the developer/HOA to install a sign that is consistent with the other three at this interchange? The Dulles Greenway people are willing to provide the specifications.

I seem to recall at one of the Developer's Update meetings several months ago that this issue was brought up and they (Terrabrook) were going to look into getting a sign installed. I'll try to follow up with them.

Thanks Cliff, I appreciate your assistance. This may seem like an insignificant issue to some, but since moving here from Arlington we've had several old neighbors and other guests miss the on-ramp to head back east. I'm sure we're not alone in that respect. Plus, it just makes common sense to have consistent signage for all parts of this interchange. Let me know what I might do to help your efforts with Terrabrook.

    Hi folks-
Some folowup....I've spoken to Terrabrook and they have committed to repacing the current small sign with one that is similar to those on the other side of the Greenway. No specific dates given, but I'm confident they will follow through (if not, they'll get tired of my phone calls!).

Thanks Cliff - I might be the only one that cares about this issue, but I appreciate the work you've put in. I am sure you will keep the pressure on as needed!

    Jtarnow,

Trust me, you're not the only one concerned about the sign :)

Thanks for taking the time to bring this up and thanks also to Cliff for doing the legwork with Terrabrook...

Cliff, keep us up to date if you hear anything new, such as an ETA, etc.

I'mnot supposed to tell anyone, but the new sign for the greenway entrance has been ordered. Don't have a date yet for the installation.

Thanks for the update, Cliff. Now does anyone know what's going on with the "disappearing" Broadlands lettering on the stone walls at the Greenway and Claiborne Pkwy?

The same thing happened over at Ashburn Village - letters kept getting stolen from the entrance sign off of Ashburn Road. They finally had to change their sign to one without individual letters. It doesn't look as good though. Sad to see it happening here.

    Good news for everyone;

My wife was driving on Claiborne just a few minutes ago and informed me that the new Greenway sign is going up as I type this...

I would guess that by lunchtime today, the new sign will be up!

Just in time for the weekend...

As the person who started this discussion, I want to thank Cliff for putting this issue back on the developer's front burner when it had apparently fallen off. Thanks Cliff!

My only other suggestion here is that the small tree closest to the sign be removed before it grows much more and blocks the new sign out entirely. If it's not done now, it will eventually happen once VDOT obtains jurisdiction over Claiborne and the signage to the Greenway.

Again, thanks to Cliff and all others who were concerned enough to chime in.

    JTARNOW-
You're welcome, it was my pleasure. While on the HOA Board, I've developed a good working relationship with Terrabrook over the past several years. I've often gotten them (much to their chagrin) to spend money on things they weren't required to. They have been a great organization to work with and we're fortunate to have them as our developer.
