It's not my fault I can't find a job. It is the college's fault.

I just got a chuckle out of this

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/08/03/new.york.jobless.graduate/index.html

Alumna sues college because she hasn't found a job

Gosh a 2.7 GPA in "information technology" and the world is not beating a path to her door. I am shocked!

Perhaps Ms. Thompson needs to stop hoping that the school will do all the work and that Ms. Thompson needs to get out there and hustle for a job.

Just imagine, A college favouring students that got better grades. An outrage!!! She is entitled to get a job after graduating and the college had damn well better start doing the work for her :angryfire:.

Would it ever occur to Ms. Thompson that perhaps companies would prefer hiring a person with a 4.0 GPA vice a person with a 2.7?

BTW, what does one do with a BBA in Information Technology?

I have a BSBA (Bachelor of Science in Business Admin) in Info Tech and I do database work.

This woman sure is entitled. I used my college's career office, but I also was looking on Monster, Careerbuilder, and the Newspapers looking for a job. The career office can not get you a job, you need to be proactive to get one. And 3 months in this economy isn't that long. She needs to get off her butt and keep looking for a job. Work in retail or restaurants to earn money, if you have to, but there is no reason to sue your college for your failure.

Can you please tell me the difference between your BSBA and a BBA?

With these new degree names, I have a hard time keeping them straight.

that's the generation we're raising: entitled, spoiled, unrealistic expectations of everything being HANDED to them... they have no clue what a WORK ETHIC is. they think life is American Idol and instant gratification.

well i shouldn't say WE- my poor kid thinks i'm the meanest mom on earth for making him actually EARN allowance via chores in addition to his regular duties and for taking away privileges when he screws up. wah. let his therapist handle it when he's in his 20's... lol

I'm so proud of my daughter. She's going to leave college with a BM.

I left a lot of BMs at college but never left with one. :pofl:

Is your daughter going to stop with her Bachelors of Medicine or will she be continuing on?

What type of medical careers are open to someone with a Bachelors of Medicine degree?

It's actually a Bachelors of Music ... and she put her Fraternity on her school ring instead of her degree. :) She's majoring in Music Education and minoring in Special Education, planning on a Special Education Masters and then looking into music therapy.

Oops, there I go assuming again. The only BM I was aware of was the medical one. My error.

Music therapy? Awesome! A noble way to help people. You should be proud of her. :)

No idea... Probably depends on the college/university.

A BBA is a Bachelors of Business Administration. You basically take business core courses and then have a concentration in Accounting, Information Systems, Management, or Marketing. When I got mine, years ago, you had to take 24 credits in business and then another 18 in your concentration. Most of the classes were the same for a MBA which is why I went for a different masters. Honestly, I had friends that had the same text books in grad school I had in undergrad at JMU.

I also wonder if Ms. Thompson realizes that suing her college is not going to look good to a potential employer?

in today's reality tv world it'll probably get her interviews and more press. "XXX Company hires lawsuit Sally"... the company will get ITS name in the news, they get tons of exposure for FREE, and 10 minutes later they are forgotten.

reminds me of what the soldier from the Abu Grahib scandal did- got in the press saying she couildn't get a job while promoting her book tour... :rolleyes3:

if it didn't work, people wouldn't do it.

Don't laugh at her, laugh at the lawyer who took her case.

She says in the article that she does not have a lawyer. I would imagine that even a shiester would not take the case.

    Don't you love etymology..;D

    shyster...
Shyster is derived from the German term scheisser, meaning literally “one who defecates,” from the verb scheissen, “to defecate,” with the English suffix -ster, “one who does,” substituted for the German suffix -er, meaning the same thing. Generally used to describe someone who is untrustworthy, money grabbing and full of crap, particularly in the field of legal work for some reason.
