Has anyone else had problems job hunting in the last two months? I have always had luck finding work but now with my funding being up in the very near future, I cannot even get nibbles for an interview. This is unusual for me. I see alot of engineering work, which my background is not - mostly a support role.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have used a few links Carol posted and continue my efforts.

loudoun county is hiring an organizational development person, basically great management and analytical skills.

www.loudoun.gov go to county jobs and scroll down to the OD title.

    awesome commute and benefits.

school board is looking for a federal programs manager, again someone with the ability to track and manage data, make data driven decisions and manage delivery of services to schools based on federal funding. you don't need a background in the programs as long as you are capable of learning about them. and you would commute to broadlands boulevard.

I don't know much about the company. The recruiter is a personal friend of mine. Even if none of the jobs that I listed are of interest to you, you should call him and tell him what you are looking for. He trades info with other recruiters in the area and may have some ideas for you. Good luck.

    hberg,

I also have encountered a lot problems getting good leads on positions over the last month. I think some of the slowness in the market has to do with the Summer and people being away on vacation. I had interest from one company but I can't get a third interview with them until after Labor Day. This is because a couple of the key people in the organization are either on vacation or overseas at one of their operations for a significant amount of time. I have a finance background (no CPA, not a controller or CFO) and I find it harder to land the Treasury or FP&A jobs that I'm searching for. If I had a CPA and was a Controller there a numerous opportunities not to mention the opportunities related to SOX compliance.

Same problem for me... engineering background, but my TS/SCI clearance isn't active. HBerg- Where have you been seeing all of the engineering jobs? What resources have you been using.. I've been doing a lot of searching myself and haven't found one resource that I would say seems to be the best. I am looking at having to leave the area to find work- which I do not want to do. Hopefully, we can all help each other out :)

Thanks for bringing them up again, I had checked awhile ago and all they had were technical positions at the time I looked. I never checked back until today. I saw a great position that I applied for so I am keeping my fingers crossed :) Thanks!

What does the real estate market "slowing" down have to do with anything? I am confused...

Don't know what "sign" you're looking at, but new and existing homes both set all-time sales records nationwide in June. Hell-oooh.

Your response reflect data from June, we are already into August and rates are beginning to climb. I know there are many real estate investors out there, but looks like a lot of "For Sale" signs are beginning to show up. A lot of my friends who actually invest in real estate state they are becoming more cautious now. Just my personal observation.....

    kat,
Remember a few years back everyone and anyone was talking about stocks. All we have heard about the last few years was real estate. It WILL cycle again from real estate back to the equity market.

FYI....this is not meant to start a real estate versus equity market debate, OK?

Still in search of that "dream" job or should I say job at "dream" location. Anyone have any luck? Must be very competitive in our area unless you are an engineer. There seem to be alot of vacancies for engineers.
