Could it be, could it really be?!?! Are they actually going to do something to fix that intersection?!?! There were road work signs and trucks with flashing lights everywhere this morning. I actually felt a flutter when I saw it and it wasn't my soon-to-be-born son kicking me!

    Anyone know what they're doing?

I am not sure but it seemed like a small project on the turn lane from Waxpool (eastbound) to LCP (northbound) and nothing extensive...

I'll take any kind of improvement at this point!

Totally agree. Made me late for work, but I really hope (fingers crossed) that whatever they do improves the intersection!

I heard on WTOP today that they were just changing (replacing?) the lights. I wasn't really paying attention, but I'm pretty sure that's what they reported....

There won't be any improvements there for the foreseeable future.

OK - so who do we call to make certain all non-improvements are done NOT in rush hour? VDOT should know better than any else that NVA drivers can barely handle non-rush hour. Throw in work tension & men in bucket trucks and you end up with the Dad on the side of the road with the smashed front end & holding his crying baby in 24 degree temps.

Wow - yeah, usually VDOT requires work to start no earlier than 9am. (I know, I know - Waxpool is still packed at 9am, but that's the typical VDOT time)

I thought I heard a few months ago that they were changing the dual-left turn lanes from EB Waxpool to NB LCP and making it a single left turn and a 3rd thru lane. It was the only inexpensive improvement for the intersection. That's what I heard. It would definitely require a change in signals, FWIW.

from what I saw this morning, they repainted the lines on LCP and they changed the lights to not have that green turning arrow. It goes right from solid green to yellow then red with no extended right turn arrow. I see no improvement... and everyone on the other side of LCP (by the post office) still runs the light so the right turners have a delay in being able to get going anyway. I wonder when the cops are ever going to crack down on that. 4-5 cars blatantly go through solid red every single time I am there...... those tickets could be a goldmine for the county.

there is no real room for enforcement there.. that is why you don't see it there.

Having cops there pulling people over would reak havoc on traffic. That's why the best you get is 'presence' where the cops make themselves visible to remind people to follow the rules.

If they want a goldmine.. simply goto any intersection in the area where the roads are incomplete and idiots think they can turn from the center lane just because there is no lane opposite the intersection!

What was the second turn lane onto LCP north from Waxpool east is now a through lane, albeit a very small through lane. There is no indication of this change other than a rather poorly done job of erasing the left turn arrow in the lane and a temporary blinking sign that says "new traffic pattern". On my trip through, no through cars used the lane and as usual people immediately merged from the middle lane to the left lane once through the intersection. Me thinks this will cause more accidents. Since the new through lane will only accommodate ~10 cars per redlight, this will hardly alleviate the backup on Waxpool and will be a source of further congestion as those who go straight through Waxpool/Church are now hindered from moving to the left to bypass the 28 backup.

Well, they did make the second right-turn lane from LCP headed north onto Waxpool a right-turn only lane and added a stoplight that now has only the green arrow. So now no one can complain when people turn from that lane when the light is red with a green arrow. :)

Is this a plot to force us to use the greenway?

Seriously? They FINALLY fixed this debacle??? I almost want to drive out there just to see it :)

The right most light was always a green arrow light, but the second lane was left ambiguous by the signs and signals.

Except now, in the evenings, the one lane to go straight on LCP (northbound) will be backed up. Guess that's a good thing, because I won't be tempted to pay the Greedway to avoid the 28 mess if it won't save me any time.

Witnessed a very near collision today as a result of the change. Someone obviously not paying attention to the signs, stopped at the light in the old second turn lane from Waxpool onto LCP north, not realizing that it's no longer a through lane. Other driver behind her approached at speed from behind, not expecting a stopped car at a green light. He slammed on his brakes and came within an inch of plowing into the back of the stopped car!
