We got a new puppy and I am looking for a good dog obedience school/classes. She is just about 6 months, so we are not looking for kindergarten, but obedience classes. Anyone have a referral?

do you have kids? are you going to crate your dog? the right program really depends on your household set up. we have a 9 yr old and I trained the dog on basic obedience myself, BUT we took The Boy and The Dog to PEtsmart in Leesburg. it was more about geting The Dog to respect The Boy and vice versa- establishing hierarchy in the household, etc. it was GREAT. she did a wonderful job and we have an very well trained Jack Russell who makes every day a pleasure!

So- maybe answering a few questions about your home can get a REAL expert to chime in with an opinion! also- go to www.woofies.com and see what they recommend- they walk my dog each weel and a great resource for all things canine...

We do have kids, 15, 13, and 11. Our middle one has special needs. According to the agreement when we recused the puppy, we have to go to obedience school, which we all feel is a good idea. Maggie, the puppy, is very jumpy and thinks everyone that comes her way is there to see her! Also, she pulls when walked. She does sit and give 5. We trained our last dog, but we didn't have kids then. I did call Doggie Do Right in Leesburg, it is $700 for 8 classes and 3 private lessons. Wanted to see if that is the norm since havent' gone this route before. Also, dont' know if they are any good. Would like support a business in our community, if they are the right fit.

I took my Siberian puppy to Doggie do right and they did a wonderful job training us and educating the dog.

Doggie Do Right is owned by the trainers that used to be at the Dog School of Leesburg - I used them when they were there - very good.

Anyone use one of the Day School programs where they train your dog for you in 2 weeks + a few private lessons?

"A click above" only really works on the dog if it's food focused. Our dog, a foxhound, is not at all food focused and we were asked to leave after about 5 sessions because our dog was not responding to the training there.
