    Hi,
We will be getting our new puppy this weekend, so I was wondering if any of you have any dog items that are sitting around collecting dust that you'd like to get rid of. I am specifically looking for a small dog crate, dog bed and even one of those baby play yards that the dog could go in outside while we are playing. Our dog is going to be a little one, so all items only need to fit a toy-size dog. Please PM me if you have anything that you are interested in getting rid of.
    THANK YOU!
    Jennifer

awwww- good for you!!!! I don't have any puppy stuff left, but make sure you go to Doggone Natural on Ashburn Rd to get your puppy off to a GREAT start with his diet! They are so knowledgable and truly care about animals- you will love what you learn there. Bring the puppy with you!!!

HOUSE BREAKING. get a scrunchy with little jingle bells on it- mine is a bird's toy i bought at petsmart. we attached it to a lanyard- like what you would put a wrk badge on, and hung it on the door knob.

we would let him out every 2 hours no mater what, and before we let him out, we would ring the bell with his nose, make a BIG deal about it, gave him a small training treat, then put him out.

we use the command "get busy" to get him to do his thing, and when he did, we made a big deal and gave him another small training treat. ** nothing with crums- allways make training rast soft, one bite bits so they are distracted by the treat itself.

worked like a charm- he was house broken in around a month! be warned- he THEN started rigning the bell just to get attention so if we new hedidn't need to go out we would bring out a toy or just get on the floor with him to distract him.

What a GREAT tip...we'll have to try that. The only thing that will be hard is our puppy is going to be REALLY tiny when we get him (and even when he's full grown), so I am not sure if that will work. We'll try SOMETHING, though! Maybe we can work it out!
    Any other tips out there???

i have a 17 lb jasck Rusell- the bell almost reaches the floor. if you decide to try it, make sure there's not opening- like a noose- above the bell, just stitch it together so the pppy can't get tangled up.

We did the same thing for our poodles (8 and 10 lbs) except used a cat toy. The string on a bouncy cat toy is long enough to reach the floor (even when tied in a know about the door handle) and you avoid the noose entrapment or a paw getting stuck or whatever.

    redon1,

does that work on kids too?

i'm potty training my daughter and it seems like it's taking a LONG time. i know it doesn't work over night but...

wish there was a potty training camp, send off the kids and they come back fully trained!!!

lmao- don't i wish!!! many ppl say they will when they want to or when they are ready, but i don't believe that- it's too disruptive AND an important factor if they can get into certain preschools.

i gotta say i did my own potty training boot camp with my son. it's under another thread here but in a nutshell- we spend 48 straight hours using a timer and hitting that potty every hour or 2 no matter what, and many tears and cheerios- he was potty trained!
let his therapist deal with it when he's in his 20's- potty training immersion works! lol

Lord knows there have been some tears. "I DON'T WANT TO GO!!! I DON'T HAVE TO PEE" "Maybe next time Mommy"

Just now she was hiding under the table doing her business. She knows she is going and has to go, but why she doesn't say "Mommy, I have to go potty" I don't understand.

When will this end?!?! and to think I have my son next to train. I hate potty training!

that's what is great about puppies- they WANT to please! lol

you also have to really look at the kid's personality- some respond well to nonchalance about an issue, others need rigid attention to it. have you tried making potty time fun time where mommy and me potty together? you both have a book, sit on the potty- maybe even make special potty shirts to wear for the "potty party!" you set a timer and when it goes off, the potty is over.

it take real decdication and consistency, but maybe a princess potty party is the key!

great advise. I have tried so much, from stickers, dancing, timing every 45mins-1hour, m&ms... i think i will try the timer so that when she hears it she knows its potty time not just me saying 'lets go now'

Not that this has anything to do with puppy stuff, but a wise friend of mine whose son said "but I don't HAVE to go!" told him "I didn't say you had to go. I said you had to *try*." Seems obvious, but it was a good distinction to make with a concrete-thinking young child, that you're supposed to try to go every now and then, rather than just waiting until you are about to go. Good luck, and know that in 5 years your child will be potty trained no matter what you do now.

    5 YEARS of potty training?!

Hehe. I know it is just a matter of time and staying consistent. Just getting tired... been months now that I've been working with her, to get her to tell ME when she has to go. I even keep a potty in the car for those times we are out shopping. I'll give it a try with using different wording. Sounds like a no brainer to us adults, but to little ones they think so literally.

Ok, this has been way off topic hehe. I'm done. But if anyone else has advise, shoot me a PM.
