Nothing really seems to surprise me anymore unfortunately (increased taxes, increased tolls, not enough money for road projects, etc.).

And they call this smart growth?????

The county missed the big opportunity to get the developers to pay during the boom years and now left us with the bills. I say lets cover over western Loudoun so we can have even more traffic more overcrowded schools and even higher taxes and let Toll and the other developers build even bigger homes in florida. Toll said last year that the dc market was his most profitable market in the country. People are a bunch of saps in this area we get screwed on the baseball deal one of the most profitable ever for baseball and don't get me wrong I want baseball here. Loudoun makes our area the most profitable in the country for the builders and now we are stuck we the bills and problems.

Does anyone know how to negociate here??? I remember my builder buddy here telling me back in the eighties when I lived in texas he said the dc area is a gold mine for builders. People here will pay almost anything for a half finished home here compared to what you have to give them in Texas. We give the county virtually nothing in return to be able to build here compared to the rest of the country. And everyone loves us for doing so. Well that was the eighties and not much has changed here since I have moved here from way back then. Most proffers are a joke and not equal to all developers. We have had a bunch of country pumpkins running this county and state. As we say in texas they are sly as a fox to endow their own pocketbooks. What I can't believe as I read these forums and others from the area which is supposed to be a highly educated and paid extremely well allow this all to happen and do nothing constructive about it. Hopefully the wake up call will happen when you see 5 years from now the roads and traffic are much worse the home you bought this last year is worth less then you paid for it. Don't think it will happen just wait and see.
Most here are in the disbelief mode that there home will go down in value even though it is happening especially if you bought it in the last several years. The traffic is going to get a lot worse as there is nothing in the works that can even maintain the traffic at its present misery.

There are real solutions but that is going to take a new way of thinking.

Don't build until roads and schools are built first and can handle the future traffic and and children. As someone said we may get a few more interchanges on 28 but that will not improve the traffic problems getting to 28. Also someone forgot about that abortion of an interchange they built at 66 and 28 with all those lights there at braddock and the other side. Wonderful we get all the traffic in a hurry to 66 from 28 and then we get this huge pile up of cars there because of the lights and it already happens. What genius thought of that design several years ago when it was rebuilt.
God help us if the MWAA does not take over the building of the subway and the dulles toll road and VDOT and the state gets ahold of that money as they have with the greenway most of it won't be spent around here. I bet Richmond is just slobbering all over themselves over that huge amount of money they would get from the sale of the dulles tollroad. THey are probably saying those overpaid over educated idiots that live there will more then likely let us con them into to this windfall like we have been doing to them for decades. Yep my builder friend was right about the mentality of the people that live in the DC area just a bunch of overeducated and overpaid saps. Hopefully the future generations will prove them wrong and the jury is out on this current generation. The next few years will tell if we can get freedom from overcrowded roads and schools and still be able to afford to live here.

I have to admit our elected officials are getting very creative on how to screw the people that live here with more taxes and welcome the developers with open arms and open personal pocket books for themselves.
