Loudoun shelter puts down all of its cats

So sad.

WTOP:WASHINGTON - The cat area of the Loudoun County Animal Shelter is closed after the corona virus struck.
The virus forced the shelter to put down 25 cats -- all of the cats at the shelter.
"There is no vaccine for this," says shelter spokeswoman Laura Rizer.
"There is not a treatment available that's going to cure them."
It's believed that feral cats brought the airborne virus into the shelter.
Workers need to sanitize the entire shelter before it can accept new cats. They hope to be finished by March 5.
Advice for cat owners: Keep your cats indoors.
"They're not going to catch it from anywhere unless they are out wandering in the neighborhood and come in contact perhaps with a feral cat."

 

That's awful. So, so sad.

 

It's very sad and a very hard lesson for the shelter. Ferals and strays both can carry the virus and not exhibit any symptoms. A quarantine area would have helped in this case.
