Loudoun Canoe Trip from Algonkian Park

    June 07, 2014 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Algonkian Park Boat Launch @ Potomac Heritage Trail, Sterling, VA 20165, USA

Sustainable Landscaping workshops offered by PEC to residents of 7 HOAs including Broadlands in Loudoun between 2012 and 2014. As part of the program, we said that we'd be offering some field trips, and one in particular was to enable residents to get on a local stream / water body and enjoy a canoe trip (led by River and Trail Outfitters) while also getting more first hand exposure to the relationship between the land and streams.

The trip will show where the Fairfax Water drinking water intake is on the Potomac. This is the major supply of drinking water for residents of suburban Loudoun and the guide and PEC rep will share more information and answer questions about what homeowners do, and their impacts.

We'll stop for a river-side picnic lunch; please bring a lunch. Be sure to bring a water bottle, sunscreen and close-toed shoes that can get wet. No flip flops, please.

River and Trail Outfitters will be providing safety and paddling instruction as well as interpretive and watershed information along with PEC staff. This trip is appropriate for the canoe novice.

Where: Meet at Algonkian Park boat launch. We will go up and downstream to see where our major eastern Loudoun streams flow into the Potomac and observe the area around the Fairfax Water drinking water intake.

This trip is limited to ages 12+. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Trip will be canceled to be rescheduled at a future date if there are not adequate sign-ups.

In case of severe weather, rain date is Sunday, June 8th same time, same place. Please hold both dates open as there are no refunds if you sign up but cannot attend the rain date.
