There are several threads on BBQ but I have not seen one for Monks.

Personally I am not a fan of the other BBQ places in the area (Sterling to Leesburg) of which I have tried 4; 5 if you count that place that closed near Safeway a few years ago. Monks however is fantastic.

Normally I am all about the pulled pork but the brisket here is killer, I personally have never had a dry bit of brisket from them. The smoked gouda mac & cheese is amazing but the backed beans with some smoked ham in it is pure heaven. I am not even a major fan of beans, normally I would much rather have mac & cheese. To top it all off they have a handful of mind blowing home made sauces; I don't care for beer but the stout on brisket is where its at; the raspberry chipotle merlot is a close second.

Its a bit of a trip from the Broadlands but worth it: http://www.monksq.com/

4.5 out of 5 starts on yelp with 34 reviews http://www.yelp.com/biz/monks-bbq-purcellville

I'll have to try Monks next time I'm out that way. My family really likes Urban BBQ in the Ashburn Village shopping plaza.

Urban's pulled pork failed to impress me, it was not bad but did not inspire me to return.

Tried to hit Monks on Friday but we were short on time and wait was too long. Place was packed.

Monks is wonderful and I can't say enough great things about their brisket or their meat in general. I've NEVER been a fan of any beef brisket as it has always been what I've considered dry meat, well at Monks, it is NOT dry in the least. Moist, lots of good smokey flavor, rich, delicious and just melt in your mouth, pack that flavor punch.

We usually go right when they open around 5 pm so we can avoid the lines as EVERYTIME I leave, there is a line forming and If I'm a bit late, there is a line there already.

FYI - the place might be packed, but feel free to do carryout as you are able to order family style (by the pound) instead of individual meal and yes, the brisket stays moist the entire trip back to the Broadlands.

    Enjoy!
