What is the cost for full time good nanny? Curious to see how it compares to daycare costs. Would want someone who would be active with the kids taking them to playgroups, can drive them if necessary, do arts and crafts and also handle discipline (know how to say no when my son would ask to watch TV all day!).

That is only for a live in. Some live-out nannys have their own transportation but you may want to provide a vehicle for them if you have multiple kids and want to be sure about the vehicle's history.

Au pairs are less but you will need to pay additional fees such as room/board, transportation, insurance, and cell phone to name a few.

How do you have a live out au pair? We have a live in au pair and that's $179/week 10 hours a day, 5 days week. Plus you have to factor in the room and board. Regardless though, I didn't think au pair programs allowed live out's.

Maybe she is considered a nanny because she doesn't live with us, the service we use calls them Au Pairs. Not sure - remember I'm a 1st time mom and this was a recent choice in childcare.

Abi is definately older than the ones we interviewed , has her Certs, State & Federal Criminal checks, US Citizen and is pretty flexible if I don't need her or if the little one is sick.

So you pay less than $4/hour? Do you also pay OT for the 10 hours over 40? Isn't that slave labor?

YOu have to figure in the room and board, that's worth a lot.

btw, we are not looking for an au pair or live in situation, I'm looking for 45 hours per week live out nanny pricing for multiple children.

Room and board is already factored in. The au pair program is regulated by the Dept of State in accordance with the Fair Labor Standards Act. She is paid minimum wage for 40 hours per week and then the stipend is reduced to $179 to factor in room and board. I wasn't saying YOU yourself have to take it out of the weekly stipend...it's already done for you. So no, it's not slave labor. And there is no OT. She's not allowed (per DoS regulations).

Anyway, before we looked at the au pair program, we looked into a live out nanny. A good live out nanny, even without a car, would cost approx. $500-600 week for multiple children. There are a few websites you can look at: www.nanny.com and www.greataupair.com (which is not limited to au pairs, but au pairs and nannies). You will find that a nanny will cost the same amount as daycare, but then you have to worry about back-up care for the nanny in case she's sick or a member of her family is sick.
