Last night around 4 AM, I had woken up to go to the bathroom and noticed that their was a car parked between two houses for a lengthy time with headlights and tail lights still on in the middle of the night so after watching for 15 mins or so, I was getting a gut feeling that it could be some no good peeps casing cars to check to see if they could steal stuff from unlocked cars or taking catalytic converters….

Although it was difficult to report type of car or color, etc, I did call the Sheriffs to see if they could check the car out to be sure it’s not some criminal elements trying to break into cars or something along those lines. Car backed up a bit in the court after a bit and just sat there and then backed up after a bit and drove off….was very hard to see what was going on as street was dark at 4 AM.
Sheriffs arrived after car had already driven off….but they did stop by to let me know they did see the car and it was a Uber…..

Dispatch said I did right thing because Broadlands/Brambleton are seeing a spate of criminals going from house to house in middle of night to check unlocked cars to steal things from….I’m glad I did the right thing to ensure the neighbor’s properties stay safe….especially at this hour of the night and I would do it again if I suspect something weird going on at that hour of the night!

Better to report strange stuff than not and be potentially robbed with no possible recourse or action by the cops.

To LCSO’s credit, they sent not one but 3 cars

You are welcome for my being alert to potential thefts!

I’ve been seeing a lot of Ring videos of people casing and breaking into cars in the middle of the night around Brambleton/Ashburn/Broadlands so I decided to call instead of ignoring it…

I think with metro opening up and more houses/apartments being built, we will be seeing a rise in crime around here so being more alert to our surroundings is going to be needed going forward especially when we have rising home insurance premiums!

Uber would be a great cover for neighborhood bad guy recon purposes. Glad to see someone being proactive to keep the neighborhood safe. Thank you for the effort.
