Do we have to sort items before we put them in the new toter? I used to separate newspapers and cardboard from the bottles and cans. Now I wonder if we just dump everything in loose. Anyone know?

We did not get a new toter either. We left our recyle bins out all day - my understanding is that we just needed to leave them out and they would be taken and replaced with a toter....correct??

They are replacing the toters throughout the month. If yours wasn't exchanged today, then your section is probably scheduled for another recycle day. It's my understanding they are NOT all replaced on the same day, but throughout the month...

No sorting needed. Just dump it all in there!

Just curious. a year ago or more our recycle bin was blown away with the wind. I'm guessing someone has 2 now as I could never find it. Up here on the hill it becomes a wind tunnel sometime. I bought my own trashcan to replace it as it was never big enough and they have been good about picking it up even though it's not marked. What are we supposed to do in this situation?

The couple of times we've had to call them they've been very responsive. One time the owner even came by to make sure something was being done correctly. If you don't get a new recycle toter I would say call them and explain that your old one was blown away.

A bunch of people on my street got them but some of us (including myself) didn't, so I called Patriot.

I learned that the problem was that I only put out my one Patriot-labeled tub, not the AAA-branded bin which is still in my possession from the previous regime.

The very courteous person at Patriot told me that they only delivered the toters to those with two or more tubs at the curb. She said that their rationale was that if you only had one bin of recyclable materials, then you probably didn't need the toter.

I agreed to stick out at least two tubs for the upcoming Thursday pickup, and she also took down my address just to confirm that I wanted the new toter. That was a nice touch of customer service.

So, if you are interested in receiving the new toter but didn't get one when the rest of your street did, put out at least two bins next time.

Not sure that's accurate... My understanding is that it was a 1-to-1 swap. Additionally, on my street, everyone who put out their one recycling tub, got a new toter in the swap. I don't know of anyone on my street who had/has 2 tubs.

Either Patriot changed their process for the swap or the person on the phone was mis-informed.

Dunno. All I can say is that the deliveries on my street seemed to be random. Houses on both sides of me got 'em but I got stiffed. The lady who gave me the story about the one-tub needs test spoke very authoritatively on the subject.

It wasn't a one for one swap either. We didn't have a recycling bin out at all but got one of the new toters.

We had one bin out, and we did not get a toter either. My neighbors on both sides did, but the neighbor diagonally across the street didn't. On my block (Awbrey Pl), it seemed VERY random.

If you want one of the new toters, call Patriot. 703-257-7100. You will probably get results a lot faster than waiting or posting here.

We received a Toter and decided that it was too big for us. With guidance from Maureen, I called Patriot. They were very polite. The next recycling day the swithced our big one for a smalle one. Very professional and efficecient.

We've had two bins out and didn't receive a new one. Don't care either way.
