    Hi folks-
Effective April 1, we will be changing trash companies from AAA to New Vision.
All the details will be on the cover of the March 1 Newsletter. Please read it and follow the instructions for leaving out your AAA trash cans and bins.

The HOA will now be providing trash cans for ALL residents, including all townhouses.

AAA has been servicing Broadlands since the community started. Unfortunately, they've been bough out/taken over by a new parent organization. They demanded a significant increase in their fees, even though we were still in the first year of a three year contract. The quality of their service has also deteriorated significantly over the past several months.

Great - Maybe the new folks won't come at 6:30 in the morning (despite a contracted start of 7:00 am).

Also, it'll be nice to have a new bin - Do you know yet if it will be the same collection days? I just got the hubby trained to Tues/Fri....

    Re: New Trash Service

Will there be any size options on the newly provided trash cans? Some of us don't need the monster size roll-a-way units that were provided by AAA.

I believe there will be recycle bins. However, if not, Home Depot and Lowes have some nice stackable ones that you had better rush over and get !! :D

The trash days will also change to Monday and Thursday (Cliff, it is thursday right?) .. but the good news is that yard waste will go out on MONDAY ... and not ripen over the week until Wednesday.

    Re: New Trash Service

You will have a choice of size, but only after the first set of bins have been delivered, I believe.

Again, more details in the March Newsletter ... which everyone reads, right ???

Recycle bins will be provided. There are three sizes of trash cans. I think it's 96, 64, 48 gallons. Single family homes will be delivered the large size, townhomes one of the smaller sizes. After receiving your toter, you can request whatever size you want.
Trash pick-up will be Monday and Thursday, yard waste on Monday, Recycle bins on Thursday.
All the details will be in the March newsletter.
One of the reasons we canned (pun intended) AAA was their consistent abuse of the 7am start time.

    Re: New Trash Service

Silly question - what are we supposed to do with the old AAA garbage cans and bins? Leave them out for the new trash company?

AAA will let us know what day they will be picking them up, and it will be passed on to the residents.

Thanks to our representatives for finding a less expensive trash removal company.

Are we going to have pick ups on Monday Holidays? Will this information be disseminated in advance?

    Re: New Trash Service

I guess they must not be happy that we cancelled their service. For some reason, whoever was working this neighborhood this morning decided to just throw the trash cans around. Yes, it was breezy, but not enough to throw all of the trash cans on our street and neighboring streets around!

btw- Ashburn Village has already started using "New Horizon" and from what I hear they're quite happy. Now, it's only a few months in, but hopefully it bodes well for us, too.

    Re: New Trash Service

FWIW ... the homeowner members of the HOA board have been planning this switch ever since AAA came in like a couple of guys from the 'Sopranos' and basically said (in the second year of a three year contract), our rates are going up, agree to it in 30 days or we're outta here. Talk about an offer you couldn't refuse.

No way could we find a company that fast. However, we did start investigating others, and New Horizon caught our eye back then. They wouldn't be able to handle the new business in 30 days, but give them some time. We were willing to do that, plus it gave us time to hear how they did in the Village.

EVERYTHING we have heard about them is VERY positive. Toters are left back against the curb, not flying all over the place. Anything dropped is immediately picked up and disposed, no flying trash or recycling cans left in the street, or in the bins. Three sizes of bins to cover all home and family sizes. Yard waste pickup on a day that makes sense, Monday, after most of that waste is generated. The use of smaller trucks to pickup, then transfer to larger vehicles away from the residential areas.

The Board members are very happy with this choice, and we can't wait to give AAA an offer they can't refuse ... gedattahere, gowan, beatit.

    Re: New Trash Service

Neil - the other morning I saw one of the AAA employees relieving themselves on one of our neighbor’s trotters (needless to say I hosed mine down before bringing into the garage). Knowing that we are getting ready to change service (BTW thank you for HOA's responsive change in companies) should we just grin and bear this type of action from AAA employees? I thought about calling the Sheriff's office, as I am pretty sure that is consider lude behavior...but I was in a rush to get ready for work. If this happens again what would you suggest?

    Re: New Trash Service

When you consider AAA owns the cans and bins it's kind of funny. What do I care if they tear them up? Maybe if they get mad enough they will torch their own trucks. What a bunch of morons.
