Well, I'm about 99% sure they did the section of Vestals Gap east of Claiborne, as well as a portion of Demott, going north towards the shopping center from that corner.

That list probably lists only major 'arteries' and not the smaller side streets.

Saw the Verizon trucks out yesterday near Claiborne Pkwy getting ready (or finishing - couldn't tell) to pull the fiber in the conduits. :)

I would think/hope so. Years ago (before I moved here) I had Verizon Business ISDN for the same reason. I had to call their business unit as the consumer people had no idea what I was asking for. While I lived in a residential area and used a residential phone they had no problems getting me setup with the business service.

I saw new red markings on the pavement along Chickakoan. Any chance that it's Verizon?

Looks like they're digging on Chickacoan near Vestal's Gap and going south on Chickacoan, but it's not on their list. Does anyone know where they're going next?

Sturman Place is on their list, which is a cul-de-sac off of Glebe View in the North section by the water towers.

A lot of them are the communities immediately to the south and east of Broadlands.
Some are in Ashburn Farm and off Ashburn Rd.
Sturman Place is in Broadlands, off Glebe View near Truro Parish. Ee Gads!!! That's only a few blocks away!!!!!

I think this is just a ploy to raise our hopes... could the streets be any more random? Do they throw darts at a map? Not the logical roll out you'd expect.

I wonder if they are just waiting for Openband to crumble like the Brambleton community service provider did.

I had such high hopes when someone said they were working on Demott, since that is one "block" up from us.

Oh well.. Comcast Jail it is for me.

Even if they were to fail - someone could buy them up. They (OB) own the infrastructure and the exclusive contract. Only a financial buyout by verizon of OB or new contract would change that :(

Sturman was on the list in September and not a piece a dirt was touched nor were there any markings anywhere on the ground.

As we wait forever for FIOS, I'm wondering what my options are for high-speed internet. Verizon DSL is not available and I have satellite television -- does having satellite for tv preclude me from having cable internet access ? I have checked into satellite internet, but it seems cost-prohibitive and I haven't heard great things about it.

Nope.. you can have sat and cable.. in fact many people do. The question is.. can you get cable at all? If you are not in openband territory, you can get high speed internet from Comcast - but paying for internet alone is expensive. Anywhere from $35-$60/month

Thanks Flynnibus -- I am thankfully not in openband territory. If you have Comcast, do you know why the varying rate ($35 - $60) ?

Full rate vs promotional rate. Full rate is something like $57/month I think. Its been a bit since I checked.

I switched to cable TV in part to diffuse my cost of internet (and for some HD functionality) but now Sat has finally caught back up on the HD front.
