Just wanted to let you all know that while we're seeing a lot of digging, etc, there's still a lot of work that still needs to be done to get all this fiber online. A source inside Verizon and who has access to internal project plans and milestone dates has informed me and some others that the current plan is to have Verizon FiOS online in Broadlands around the end of June, beginning of July.

So while it's exciting to see all this work being done, we're still about 6 months away from even being able to get FiOS installed in our homes...

... which is consistent with what most you read from other FIOS deployments. Most start seeing turn-ups about 5-7 months after digging goes by...

They (vz contractors) have been burying a ton of fiber/conduit around my house along Demott. Hoping we can get FIOS in ~6mos or so! They just did all the houses on Arundel Ct in 2 days (digging up everyone's front yards). Hopefully they do our townhouses soon. There are blue markings on the grass in the common areas, hopefully that's a good sign!

yes, I saw them on Arundel Ct and thought that was a good sign... moving off the main drags onto the actual customer streets.

Just got the signs on our door that S&N Communications is the contractor doing work for fiber in the area, and that they will be in the area "within the next few days". Second sheet was the PR piece about FTTP/FIOS.

The verizon site doesn't list our street (Scara Place), but they don't have a Feb listing up yet (http://www.verizon.com/Virginia)

    Mr. Linux,

Maybe your source inside Verizon can add some insight into this question. I live on Reamy Way which connects both Sturman and Scara which both streets have been marked and actually Sturman has had digging occurring this week. Yet Reamy has been untouched no markings, no notices, no diggng. I called Verizon and tried to get in touch with the Project Planning group for FIOS but I had no luck and the customer service people could provide no insight. I just find it strang that the only roads we connect to have been notified and yet we don't even have street markings. (No alternative Frustrated)

What Verizon is probably doing is building out the 'feeder' infrastructure first, and then slowly branch out from there. They start rolling out through major arteries and then tapping into those to branch out to smaller and smaller segments. That's my guess; I'll try to ask our contact, but I don't know if he has access to that level of detail.

Either way, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Verizon is eventually going to get to your street. They're still months away from even 'lighting up' the fiber, so my suggestion is just kick back and enjoy watching the ice on the tree branches today

yeah.. I would guess you are going to be waiting 4 months or so even after you see them dig up past you.. plus then waiting for scheduling an appointment once its done. Since the install process is so long (they install a lot of gear and of course running fiber to the house) I would speculate there is going to be quite a back log even once service is 'available' on your street.

In short.. don't focus on counting down the days now.. you're likely to become frustrated waiting. Think big picture :)

    Guys,

Thanks for the words of advice and be patient, patience is not one of my attributes. Anyway, I finally decided that I could wait and not get upset by being on a cable only island. So today I wake up and see Utliquest started marking up Reamy. Yes, now I can see the light at the end of the Cable Tunnel.

They laid conduit to the back of our townhouses (Frame sq) on Thursday/Friday. Not sure when they run the fiber/coax to the houses, but I'm itching for some FiOS!

I'll be switch from Comcast basically because of the prices. I've never had any problems with the cable internet, and have always had great speeds (700+k/s)

If I recall.. they don't run the last segment until the customer orders. They run paths from distribution boxes underground and then when you order service, they run the segment to your house. I could be wrong there though.

I am on Chickacoan and got the flier as well. Has anyone tried to call and order? I would assume VZ would not be ready to schedule orders for this part of the neighborhood yet.
