I am looking around to find a reasonably priced vet that does the operation for my dog. Does anyone have any experience with North Oatlands Animal Hospital? Can anyone recommend a vet that does not charge a ridiculous amount? I am getting the Loudoun County Spay/Nuter Certificate also that offers a discount on the program. I called a local vet that accepts the certificate but even with the discount it may cost close to $400. New dog owner so I dont have a lot of experience with pricing. Thanks!

I'm wondering about the Spay/Neuter program as well. I was just about to send off the money to get a voucher, but saw this post and held back. I'm so confused about all of it now. I thought the Spay/Neuter program covered everything but the initial visit (which is about $35ish at Caring Hands and make a total investment on our part $207). The Spay Today program looks like it would cost us (for one puppy and one kitten) $217 for both.

Does anyone have more accurate insight?

We used the Spay Today program and I thought the Blue Ridge Animal Hospital was great! They kept our dog overnight which I was very happy about. I just felt better that in case there were any complications, she was already in good hands. I think we paid less than $100 to spay our Lab, but that was about 4 years ago. I would certainly recommend this program.

Okay - more info from Caring Hands. The Spay/Neuter program only covers the surgery and the anesthesia. Other costs total about $150 and that includes the IV/Catheter, pain mgmt, and optional pre-anesthesia bloodwork. To microchip at that time is an additional $61 (it's cattle sized needle that's used to insert the chip).

For Spay Today, you only pay for what you need (pre-exam, anesthesia, surgery). They offer discounts on vaccines and other tests as well, but if you bring a copy of your pet's history then you don't need the vaccines. At Blue Ridge Vet, it's $40 for microchip if you do all the registration or $54 if you have the vet do all the registration online.

So total outlay (for my animals - one cat, one dog)
Caring Hands - $422 (two surgeries, two microchips)

Spay Today at Blue Ridge - $297 (two surgeries no vaccines, two microchips no vet registration...I can do that myself)

Thanks for the information on the Spay Today program!!!

Of minor concern right now - the number for Spay Today was out of service...

We went through www.spay.org for our Goldendoodle. Estimates from Brambleton Vet and the other one right down the little country road here(name escapes me right now) were over $800 to have him neutured. I think we ended up paying about $175 with Spay.org. They sent us to a vet in Herndon, Heritage Animal Hospital. They tried to do a bit of upsell on us (teeth cleaning and additional shots), but since my dog had just been to the vet, I knew what he needed and what he didn't. The collar of shame was not included in the price...
