    Hi,
I know we're not under water restrictions, but a neighbor has been watering his lawn for the past three hours at least - and I suspect more likely has been running the sprinklers overnight, based on the amount of water on the sidewalk, streets, and running down the storm drain.
Is there anything we can do about this other than politely approach the neighbor and ask them to stop wasting so much drinkable water? I water my lawn but only for a short, supervised period of time and then only once every week or two. It may not be when the lawn needs, but it's what I'm comfortable with until I can install a rainbarrel under my downspout.

    Thoughts?

EDIT: OK, he's just taken up the sprinklers, but still... that means they've been on over three hours, or overnight (since they were on last night as well).

Sounds like maybe someone accidentally left the sprinkler on overnight. We all make mistakes.

True, true. This one seems to be a frequent mistake, but it could still be a mistake.

That does seem like a lot of watering, but keep in mind that they may have recently aerated and over-seeded. If that's the case, daily watering for a couple of weeks is recommended.
