Do you really need the $5.00 for the mailbox or $10.00 for the bag of Baby clothes or the $6.00 for that little tikes picnic table???

Give it up, give it away, pass it on , Pay it forward. It's a great feeling.
give it to someone that really NEEDS it. You will be glad you did. I promise.

I gave a needy family in my own neighborhood 5 T shirts, some book bags and some mugs, and they lit up like it was Christmas!! It was a great feeling. I was gonna try and sell them for a few bucks, but why?? really??

What have you done to "Pay it Forward"???
Post yours today!! And see what happens. :pofl:

to me, the beauty of paying it forward is that no one really knows about it but you and the person who you paid it forward to. ;)

i've seen some people selling things on here not because they need the $5, but because their children want to get something new and instead of just collecting more and more stuff, they let the kids pick out what they will give up, sell it and put that money toward whatever the kid wants. i'm ok with that.

and--- maybe the DO need the $5 or $10, like the needy family you helped out... :conf3:

    just another perspective...

I have donated many many clothing and other household items to a local Church that's near the post office. They sell to needy families. Its a great feeling and honestly I'm not rich or close to it, but I feel its the least I can do.

Actually, yes, I do. I donate/free cycle a LOT of stuff but if I'm selling something its not becuase I want to revel in making extra cash but because I'd like to be able to buy diapers without also worrying about the extra car repair bills that we unexpectedly have to pay.

Not everyone has the luxury of not needing extra cash - even in small increments.

Yes, in many cases, this is true. Plus it teaches kids that toys don't grow on trees. For those fortunate ones like Sunzstar, paying it forward is the best option.

and it's not an all or nothing- you can donate, sell, donate time, contribute cash, give someone a place to sleep, buy a meal for someone homeless on the street- i think most people DO pay it forard in many ways throughout the week and just see it as what you do as a compassionate human being, not anything that needs to be pointed out...

what i hope my son takes from us is that compassionate, selfless acts are what he is SUPPOSED to do automatically, not think of it as something special. so far so good- he is very generous and thinks of others often.

I love this one, you made me think of it...:

When you thought I wasn't looking,

You hung my first painting on the refrigerator,

And I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

    You fed a stray cat,

And I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

You baked a birthday cake just for me,

And I knew that little things were special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

    You said a prayer,

And I believed there was a God that I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

    You kissed me goodnight,

    And I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

I saw tears come from your eyes,

And I learned that sometimes things hurt

But that it's alright to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

    You smiled

And it made me want to look that pretty, too.

When you thought I wasn't looking,

    You cared,

And I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I looked,

    And wanted to say thanks

For all those things you did

When you thought I wasn't looking.

Some of you have taken my post the wrong way. It was meant to share what you have shared with others.
( TeamDonzi) Im sorry you took offense to my post about paying it forward. Fortunate? I am a single parent of 2, get food stamps and living on less than $25,000 a year , live in an apt in the not so nice part of town. And getting ready to be layed off. I take offense to your comment .

To those of you that have shared, Thank you. and keep passing it on!
And yes it does teach children to save for what they want and to be responsible.

Why would being called fortunate offend you? Suggesting that other people don't need $, or picking on the little girl that paints the mailboxes isn't necessary. Everybody needs money, and when you said you pay it forward, you sounded fortunate, that's all. I'm sorry about your layoff, it's terrible what's happening in this country and I'm glad there are still some fortunate folks around.

I think it might have been the inherent judgment of others who for whatever reason want to sell their items or services. It's nice to do good, and nice to encourage others to do good, but let's not judge people we don't know for doing what they have every right to do.

    exactly.

i think it rubbed me wrong since many of the examples in the OP were very similar to items that people had recently posted for sale which i found to be awkward if not sort of calling-out-esque.

the board is "for sale and lost and found" - it is also a place where people often give things away. i've been on both sides of the buying/selling and giving things away/receiving things and have been tremendously grateful for this resource each time.

i love the local freecycle group which is a great resource as well - and has helped me get to a point where i can almost (almost!!) get a car in my garage :)
