Aw shoot ... I missed the original title ... still, when I read Steve's post I cracked up just thinking about it.

I've had some questions regarding how college students away at school will get their pictures taken. We will be taking pictures for pool passes throughout the season. Just fill in their information on the application and when they come home from school they can make an appointment to come into the Nature Center and have their photo taken. They will get their pass within a few minutes. We will begin making appointments on February 20th. Actual photo taking will begin February 26th. Some weekend and evening hours will be available.

This is a big pain. I'm not in support of this expense at all. Waste of time and money. :(

Like with anything, this system is only good as the gate keeper. After going through all this trouble of getting pictures taken hope IDs are checked.

It is actually not that much more expensive then the system we have in place right now. However the old system requires the expense year after year. After this initail year the new system will require little to no additional expense so infact we are saving your HOA money.

Really? What are the numbers? Did you factor the expense of time for the homeowner? What about when you need to re-take pictures due to age progression?

How about all the complaints about people abusing the passes? All the complaints about 'outsiders' at the pool.. How about all the complaints about people getting turned away due to capacity?

Honestly I think you are splitting hairs. Even if you have to retake pictures.. are you really that concerned over 20mins every 3-5 years?

If it really bothered you.. you could have followed the updates in the budgets, newsletters, etc and spoke up about it.

I know it is hard to believe because it is more expensive up front (however all the extra money was budgeted last year in 2005 for the 2006 budget) but by next year we will be saving money. Softballchick I would be very happy to discuss exact numbers with you or any one else interested but I do not think it needs to be done on a public forum so please PM me and I will be more then happy to answer all of your questions.
As to the expense to the homowner except for your time (which I can not put a value on yours or anyone else time) there is not any real expense.
Even retaking pictures ever so many years will still be less in the long run then the current system.

This new system is not being put in place on a whim. I personally have spent the last 4 years researching it and finding the right system to meet the needs of this community. This system provides us more security in who is entering our pools. It assures that outside members only have access to the proper pools. It assures that persons that no longer live in our community are not able to return and just flash and old card. It can if wanted provide a measure of security in that a person with a medical condition can (completely there choice)have it noted in the file and thus if needed the lifegurading staff can have quick access to needed medical information. We can better make sure minors (ie those under 10) are not comming to the pool without adult supervision and those that are 10 have passed the needed deep water test to allow them there with out an adult.
There are so many advantages as a whole to this new system that I have a hard time seeing the little bit of time residents need to spend to get there picture taken and pick up there cards as a major hardship.
Again anyone with any specific questions I am very happy to talk with you but please PM me

Also, the entire cost is coming out of money we have raised selling outside memberships. Not a single HOA dollar was spent. And, as Staci pointed out, it will SAVE HOA dollars down line.

I think folks need to withhold judgement until after the process to see if it goes smoothly or not. The Santa photos went very well, hopefully this will too.

Well we have had more then a few times to work the kinks out of the Photo process for Santa/Easter. This will of course be different, so you'll have to give them grace space over their first time too.

But I'm happy to hear you think the Santa events go smoothly.

Really, it does bother me. If I am just now voicing my displeasure, too bad. I'll do so as I wish. I'm sorry you spent four years on this project, that's a shame. I know that in Ashbrn Village they have photo id's and nobody checks them. When you have apathetic teens at the desk you will have the same issues with these cards.

Money spent is not money saved. The outside memberships would have made money without this program.

I've read a number of your posts on other threads today. Did someone get up on the wrong side of the "rock" today?

Don't judge the Broadlands pool ID checks based on what happens at the Village, the HOA will require (If I remember right) that each ID be scanned (there will be a barcode on the back of the card) to verify if the card is valid, the photo will be matched to the bearer, and if there is a violation on the card that resulted in a pool ban being placed on the person, it will be identified and applied.

Great idea with the photo id passes. I hope it all helps control outsiders from using the pools. Also wondering, how will "guests" be handled? Will residents still be given guest passes to punch or will they also be given an electronic card with a preset # of guest visits?

    Thanks for the efforts.

I'm sorry, but the HOA required the passes to be taken and held at the desk last year. In my experience, that didn't happen, more than it did. The passes were not the problem. The problem is that people want to bring guests and not pay for them. It will be just as easy to do so with this system.

I understand the forces love to gather to the defense of the HOA board every time there is a post critical of an HOA action. The tag line is always something to the effect of why don't you become involved. Just like our elected government officials, you wanted this position and you have to deal with dissent.Remember that as you, as citizens, critcize the actions of the school board or the Loudoun B.O.S. or the State legislature on up. You are in the same boat.
