Hey guys. I am curious to know what are all the different ways people in our community currently connect to Internet from home. Dial-up? Cable? T1? Wireless? Cell phone? Satellite? Open-band? Others?

John - don't know if it is possible but do the forums support polls? Would be kind of nice for this thread.

I for one use Adelphia 2-way cable.

OpenBand is the company the does the fiber to the home (FTTH) in the Broadlands South (the new developments). 100mbit access to the network, but about 1.5mb up and down to the internet.

    www.openband.net

And before anyone asks, no we can't get it in the Broadlands North.

I've been using IDSL from Frontline (NAS) for about 2 years now. It's certainly not fast, and not the most reliable, but I do enjoy the static IP. I think I would be more frustrated with Adelphia, from what I've heard from people on here and my neighbors who use it.

Wes - What are the different pricing plans that they provide? Do they block ports or prevent servers from being run?

I have to say that I am fairly happy with my Adelphia two-way cable modem. It's fine for surfing the web and downloading music.

I had IDSL for 1 year through Realconnect (first Priz*Net before they were sold to Realconnect). The conract was for $59 a month. It's now $149 I think. Needless to say I had to drop it. But while I had it, it was very nice. 15K/sec up and down, 5 static IPs, unlimited access.

I'm not sure what their current pricing structure is, since I signed up about 2 years ago. I got in on some introductory deal, since it was brand new to the area. The contract I signed was for $50 a month, but a while ago they raised it to $60, claiming there was some $10 federal fee/tax. I heard after this intro period, the rates were jacked up considerably.

I haven't really tested to see if they block any ports. When I signed up, I asked if I could host servers, and they said it was OK. I may or may not have read the fine print, but I've never had a problem yet with my web server.

I get outages once in a while, sometimes only for a few minutes. The longest was about 4-5 days. I was pretty upset, and I let them know, but as expected, they could care less.
