PS Our swim test consisted of one minute of treading water and swimming the length of the pool, back in the day. What are the requirements now?

I would encourage anyone with specific concerns to contact the HOA office directly as this forum is not routinely patrolled by HOA staff. You may contact me by phone at 703-729-9704 or via email at sarah@broadlandshoa.com.

The safety department at High Sierra pools has reviewed the specifications for each pool and developed the swim test. This is the same as last year, but has now been officially posted and adopted. The purpose of the Swim Test is to assess an individual’s overall comfort level in the water in addition to swimming proficiency. Restrictions on swimming, diving, or sliding into the deep end are for the safety of the swimmer, other swimmers, and the lifeguards. The deep end of the Southern Walk pool is 10 feet. The swim test at each pool is as follows:

    i) Swim the length of the pool (50 yards at SW, 25 yards at CC and SB); demonstrating forward progression in a comfortable manner without standing, or stopping to rest.
ii) Jump into deep water, surface unassisted; tread water for one minute in a vertical position with the mouth above the water line; and,
    iii) Exit from pool unassisted

This information has been updated in the pool rules posted to the website and posted at each pool. The Manager and Assistant Manager of each pool will now be performing the swim tests rather than the life guards, to help ensure consistency. If you have questions regarding the swim test, please ask for the manager on duty. If you feel the need to escalate your concerns, you may ask for Michelle Dillon, the supervisor for all 3 pools at Broadlands, or you may contact me directly. We discussed the possibility of swim bands, but are not proceeding with them at this time.

I think Sarah is going to be bombarded with a lot of calls and emails. The lifeguards are to the point of being annoying. Lots of disgruntled families.
