power outage

Anybody else lose power around midnight?

i'm over by Summerwood.

 

We did---looks like the whole neighborhood is out! Saw some lightning in the distance right when it happened but don't know why... Southern Walk area here.

 

Yep, went down here around 12:10 - still out now. Wonder if it's all of broadlands or even extended further.

SW here also

 

We are on Highview Trail (in SW) and ours went out at 12:10. Windermere looks like it has power (off of Croson).

 

No power here in SW, ridgeway and sunstone as far as I can see no power anywhere.
Just my blackberry.

 

It's out on Stone Hollow as well. Dominion's website was just updated to show an outage affecting 4K-10K customers in our area. No reason is given.

I called to report the outage and the computerized response said that crews will be in the area shortly to determine the cause of the outage.

 

I called Dominion as well and automated system said they will investigate and do their best to restore power by 5am.

Called dominion around 12:55AM and the notification was that the power outage was due to a car accident and that power would be restored by 5AM. I woke up to a chirping firing alarm and no ceiling fan blowing. Good night Broadlands............

 

It was out in Broadlands North too. Must have been some car accident!

 

Our power came back up at 1:17am.Fan on High, so had to turn it back down.
Even though my kids are 17 and 21 I still have super mom hearing. I actually woke up because it was SO quiet

 

FIOS is still down.

 

Ours didn't come on until 3am. It was creepy quiet....

 

It happened on Demott near the pool. A car hit the power box, the FIOS box, two trees and took out a fence on the house on the corner (Fling Ct and Demott). The loud bang woke me from a sound sleep. Sounded like a car accident or a transformer blowing or a close lightning strike. That is what I told the sheriff's non-emergency number - I was half asleep and couldn't see anything. I was close with my description. Quite a few neighbors went out to look - but they cannot post anything since FIOS is down.

The power came back on before the Dominion trucks got there. They worked from 2am (when I finally went back to sleep) until about 6am this morning (when I got out of the shower). Then Verizon's trucks showed up to look at their destroyed box. It could be a while.

Interestingly, there were sheriff's around - flashlights and taking pictures, but no ambulances - so, apparently no injuries. I couldn't see a car, so don't know if it was able to drive off or if a tow truck came.

That is all I could make out. Maybe one of the neighbors who went out to look will post more details.

 

Thanks for the update. Wow, I live right across from the pool and heard nothing, and I had all my windows open.

Update: Just drove by. Five Verizon trucks there including one with the crane bucket and large spool of fiber. Cables all over the grass, a couple of small trees uprooted. This could go on all day.

 

Driver fled the seen, was later found, charged with drunk driving.
Nice.

 

Yes it was, I awoke to my UPS screaming in my office, then just sat around and enjoyed the dark quiet. It was weird row after row of townhouse to be blacked out.

 

All is back to normal... except for the fence that got a beating...
