    Hi all,

My son is 3 and he's currently in Kindercare Ashburn Village. I really like this facility- very good teachers who care for the children and a very good center director. But here is my doubt/question on whether I should be moving him to a place like Virginia Academy.

The monthly/weekly fees is much lesser in Virginia Academy for the same if not better levels of preschool education. They offer a very structured and highly specialized cirriculum. In Kindercare, they offer extra learning classes like Phonics, Math etc but for a fee. In Virginia Academy they teach reading, writing, math etc as part of a thier daily cirruculum.

I would really appreciate if you could give me reviews on both these places and if you think it makes sense to move my son at this point to a new school or just wait until he's ready for Kindergarten to move him to the public school and not really stress about about his education levels at this stage. Thanks in advance for your inputs.

I'll send you a separate PM, but for the discussion, I think that the Kindercare curriculum has plenty of academics. Each unit has math and reading-readiness activities built in, with counting games, letter recognition and writing, etc. Certainly enough to be ready for K. I enrolled my 3 yo in the phonics a couple months ago, but just because I thought some time in a smaller group setting would be good for her, since she spends a long day at the center. The Pre-K teacher said the kids who are enrolled in phonics are reading well before they go to K. Not really necessary, IMHO.

Of course, I don't know much about Virginia Academy, but lower fees sound nice. ;)
