We have an Epson RX500 all-in-one printer. I tried printing today but got a printing error on the screen. The lights were on on the printer, but no response when I tried pressing any of the mode buttons. Then, I tried unplugging the printer and plugging it back in. Well, now the printer won't even turn back on. I tried plugging it into a different wall plug and unplugging/replugging the USB cable. But, the printer still won't turn back on. Does the printer driver need to be reinstalled? Or maybe one of the cables are bad? Help!

Do any of the lights come on the printer? Or is one of them flashing? If you don't have the printer plugged into the computer but plugged into the wall and it still wont turn on then I don't think the driver has anything to do with it and a call to Epson may be in order.

Yeah, I figured the problem had nothing to do with the driver, but thought I'd ask. The lights were on, but not responding. I couldn't even turn it off using the power button--no response. So, I decided to unplug it, but after plugging it back it, I now don't get any lights at all. Seems maybe a connection problem with one of the cables. I guess I will call Epson tomorrow. I hate having to pay long distances charges for them to tell me they don't know what is wrong and to buy a new Epson printer!

Epson is known for their poor customer support for their consumer products but they do make some of the best photo ink jet printers. I have an R800 that has been solid for 3 years that now is giving me problems because of outdated driver support on a newer OS. They have released new drivers for all their professional printers but not their consumer printers yet. And with rumors of a replacement "R900" around the corner I'm not going to hold me breath.

Good luck and let me know how you make out.

So, Epson customer support was of no help since our printer is no longer under warranty. I called a service center that supports Epson products and the guy said it sounds like a power supply problem. Service charge to fix would be $65 plus another $45 if a part is needed. Our printer is only 3 years old. Would it be worth it to have it fixed? Has the technology changed so much that it would be better to buy a new printer?

OK, any reccommendations on a brand/model? We like the all-in-one printers with photo print quality. We don't really need a fax feature. There are bunch on Amazon that are on sale with free shipping, but which to choose??? Is there a particular feature that we MUST have?
