I've trying out Firefox as an alternate browser, and I mostly like it. Except for one annoying detail. It doesn't keep me logged into websites longer than 2 or 3 days. Since noone else uses my computer, I find it handy to stay logged into the Washington Post, Netflix, and the like.

But every few days, I have to login again. This isn't a huge nuisance since I have Firefox configured to remember the userids and passwords for those sites, but it's irritating nonetheless. I'm sure it's a configuration setting, but I can't find it under Tools / Options.

    [?]What am I missing?[?]

This is generally a setting on the site itself. In most cases the site (webmaster/admin) will set an expire time for sessions. The only way (that I know of) around this is to keep the password and UID saved in the browser.

I've noticed this too... it doesn't bother me much since I use RoboForm to do autologins, form fills, etc.

Anyways, a quick google search turned up this: http://q.queso.com/archives/001402

    hopefully there is some workaround...

my big problem at the moment is Firefox gobbling up RAM and sometimes just crashing for no reason...

Regardless, it still is a ton better than IE. I *love* the AdBlock extension!

Well, I use Opera as my primary browser, and the login persists for weeks and weeks for the same sites. I use Internet Explorer at work, and the login persists for about a month. Same sites, different behavior. It has to be a Firefox thing. Do you know if there is a user forum for Firefox?

I'll have to check out the Ad Block thing. Frankly, I love Opera, and I can't see using Firefox as anything more than a backup browser when a website doesn't work properly in Opera. I'm stuck with IE for a few websites since the plugins they require don't work as well on Firefox. I think Opera has a ad blocking capability, but I haven't tried it. I'm just happy that it blocks unwanted popups but allows desirable popups (like for logins).

    Edited for typographical errors.

I prefer not to pay for my browser... and I like that firefox is open source.

http://forums.mozillazine.org/ is a great place for all things mozilla. I'm sure theres an answer in there!

Well, searching the Firefox forums didn't turn up any solutions.

However, I did notice that Mozilla had released a new version of Firefox (0.10 -- I had been using 0.9). I upgraded to the new version, and I haven't had the problem since. It must have been a bug in version 0.9.

    I still prefer Opera, though.
