Need Advice Recycle car seats?

    One of our Britax seats is about to expire soon. Anywhere around here that recycle old car seats?

    They actually have an expiration date? We also use Britax. How long before it "expires" and what reason are they actually expiring, I don't see any wear and tear on the ones I've been using for 4 years, except for cosmetic.

    Most Britax car seats expire after six years. There should be an expiration date somewhere on the base. It's because the plastic degrades over time as well as the harness material wearing out. It may look fine, but it won't hold up as well in an accident.

    They are in desperate need for car seats for in need/at risk families. You may want to call and see if they will take a near or expired car seat. Fabulous organization, serving very needy families.

    I believe they expire due to newer manufacturers' requirements and/or general legislation requirements for safety. Not to mention it's a CYA for the manufacturers if a lawsuit were to be brought on them.
