"Gimme 5" plastic recycling available in 260 stores
In its second year of operation, our "Gimme 5" recycling program is now offered in 260 retail locations (most of them Whole Foods Markets). That's about 70 more locations than last year.
In 2009, we partnered with Preserve and Whole Foods Market to help start the Gimme 5 program, which collected more than 45,000 pounds of #5 plastic-the equivalent of about 2.9 million yogurt cups-in its first year.
Most community recycling centers don't accept yogurt cups and other #5 plastic containers. But now you can leave them in a Gimme 5 recycling bin at a Whole Foods Market or other retailer near you (click for locations), and Preserve will recycle them into new household products.

We do! Patriot collects all plastics #1 through #7, plus newspapers, mixed paper, cardboard, paperboard, glass bottles and jars, metal and aluminum cans. Recycles can be co-mingled.

I'm curious about this too because only a few companies use recycled #5, Terracycle and Preserve. I'm not sure if there are any others. I would like to find out more about where they take it and if where they dump it truly does recycle the #5 containers.

In Ashburn Village we use New Vision and they do NOT take the #5s. I collect them and plan to take them to the Reston Whole Foods for recycling.

Hopefully Patriot is recycling them correctly for you!
