Redskins' Sean Taylor shot at Miami-Dade home

MIAMI (WSVN) -- Sources say Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor is in extremely critical condition after someone shot him at his home early this morning.

Before dawn Monday, Taylor, a former University of Miami football player, was shot in the leg, but the bullet struck the femoral artery, and he has lost a lot of blood.

Circumstances surrounding the shooting haven't been released, but, the Redskins released a statement that said the 24-year-old Taylor was in surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital and that Miami-Dade Police have begun an investigation.

The Washington safety missed his second straight game with a sprained right knee.

The shooting occurred at his home on Old Cutler Road in the southern part of Miami-Dade County.

Taylor is no stranger to trouble as he was involved in an incident when he was charged with assault and simple battery in July of 2005.

Bad news. Hope he pulls through this okay. Forget about football, I just hope he makes it through and makes it through without the brain damage they're scared of.

This is so sad. My condolences to all of his and the Redskins families.

I go to training camp every year and he stands out in my memories for being so sweet to my daughter. We were waiting for autographs and she was a little nervous with the crowds around her. He came up and talked to her quietly and asked how she was doing (and of coursed signed her football). He was quiet, sweet, humble, polite. He was also an incredible football player. He will be missed.

It was nice to see a lot of redskins flags flying on the cars as I went into work today, I flew mine. He will be missed on the team, thats for sure.

So sad... I can't even put into words how horrible this is. It's going to be a very touching moment this week when the entire NFL observes a moment of silence. Forget about football, his poor daughter, family and friends. I really thought he would pull through this.

My son just won a Sean Taylor autographed item in the Crossroads Thanksgiving Day race, and the morning the news report came out that Taylor had died, he said, "Mom, I might have one of the last things he ever signed." It made me cry. It's so hard to explain some of the things that happen in this world to your kids.

From a lifelong Philadelphia Eagles fan, this is a terrible tragedy, and my prayers go out to his family. Not only was this guy was a fierce and talented competitor on the field, he was a great person off the field as well. The NFL will truly miss him.

This reminds me of when the Eagles lost Pro-Bowl DE Jerome Brown in the summer of 1992 when he was killed in a car accident. An entire city rallied around the Eagles that year, and I'm convinced the same will happen here. Coincidentally, he was also a U of Miami alum.

Too tragic. It hurts a little more because he was a more prominent player about which I knew a little more of his life.

A slightly different tone: Does anyone know if they are moving next Thursday's game against the Bears? I have old college friends flying in from Chicago to go to the game with me.

I heard on the radio tonight that the Bears would be willing to move the game, but the league said no one has made the request to move the game. Not sure if the Redskins will make that request or not.

For those of you with tickets to the Thursday night game vs. the Bears, you might want to make sure the ticket takers are careful with your ticket because that's the date when Sean Taylor appears on the ticket stubs.
