I have been reading about rubber mulch and I was wondering if anyone in the area sells it? It appears to have a high initial cost but lasts a lot longer and looks goo too!

"goo" may have been an appropriate slip. It does look good on initial installation, I am curious as to how it looks a year later. That's the real question. I also wonder how you clean the stuff, if needed.

It certainly is appealing to think of a "one time application". But I would bet it isn't maintenance free.

We have a friend with it and it is awesome. They ordered a pallet (sp?) of it and it was like somewhere in the 8-900 dollar range For the area underneath their very large deck. The kids (including ours) have a great time running around on it and it is maintenance free.
I am not sure where they got it but I know they had to special order it and it was much less expensive to buy in bulk. They have some kind of burgundy color and it looks really good.

Hey, are you making fun of my typing impediment! [:p] Seriously, I hear that some have a 5 year color guarantee.

I forgot to mention that they have had this mulch for almost 2 years now and it still looks great.

Lowe's sells it-it's like $10.99 for a 16 pound bag. Sounds like a lot, but 16 pounds of the stuff is still smaller than a regular 2 cubic foot shredded mulch bag. They sell it in the dark wood (looks like normal mucl) or the redder color. The one at Lowe's has a 12 year color guarantee.

I figured that I bought about $100 worth of mulch last year (still didn't cover everything). It would probably cost me close to $1000 to cover my garden beds in the rubber stuff. That's 10 years worth of mulch at $100 per year BUT

a)I wouldn't have to keep mulching year after year AND
b)I'd still be 2 years ahead of the game, since the rubber mulch is guaranteed for 12 years...

So, it may be worth it-if I ever find a spare $1000 sitting around...

there's probably some obscure requirement in their warranty that you tag each defective mulch nugget and send them back in individual ziplock baggies 8) Maybe Lowes sells an extended warranty for their mulch =)

We just ordered these from Plow and Hearth for the trees in our backyard. I liked them better than the individual pieces of rubber mulch. Hopefully they will be easier to maintain in the fall when the leaves are falling :)

There is nothing in the covanants that states the type of mulch you use, or even if you have to use mulch at all.

That said, we'd get you on the weeds that would pop up ... [:p]

What are you talking about, those are not weeds, those are plants carefully planned to cover all of the flower beds.
