Just got a call from Scotts Lawn Service to sell their services. They want to come by and lay down pre-emergent to prevent crab grass, broadleaf weeds, etc and want $80 to do so. The treatments for the rest of the year, the quote he gave me was $90/treatment. I think he said there's around 7 treatments for the year. I have 1/2 acre.

Just curious if anyone out there uses Scotts for their lawn maintenance and if so, are you satisfied? I was thinking of following the Scotts Lawn Program from their website and doing it myself but open to using their service if they do a good job and it's not that much more to use them vs doing it myself. For those that tried it themselves and ended up using Scotts or any other lawn service, did it make a big difference?

Any other Lawn Companies you would recommend?

    Thanks!

We have used them for the past two seasons, but won't be using them this year. Honestly, we just weren't impressed by the job they did. They weren't bad, just not what we hoped for. Our grass certainly didn't look any better than our neighbors who do their own.

That said, our yard may look horrible by the end of the summer, and we may realize that having Scott's wasn't such a bad idea! :D

We use Pro Lawn and have for several years 1st at our TH and now in our new SF. Not sure of the costs but I know there are 7 treatments. Our SF was a foreclosure and nothing (including mowing) had been done for the most part of 2 years. By fall our yard looked better then I expected and no longer looked like the sick kid on the block. In fact I think it looked as good as my neighbors who have been caring for their all along.

We used Scotts last year. They have the satisfaction guarantee...after about 4 treatments, we did not see any change in our lawn and still had crabgrass and clover. The next time, I timed the guy from the time he drove up to the front of the house, until he rolled up his hose...2 minutes 36 seconds. We live in a SF and I decided there was no way he could even walk my property and spray in that amoount of time. We made three phone calls before they finally stopped coming, on the third time they showed up and luckily I ran out and stopped him before he treated our lawn. They still want to be paid for the last time. No way. Would not suggest them to anyone.

That sounds very expensive. We use Natura-Lawn out of Leesburg. They do a great job, use kid-friendly chemicals, and only charge $50/treatment.

One of our neighbors is a co-owner of Ultra Turf and their company does a lot of properties in our area. I haven't used them myself (although I'd like to if I could get DH on board!) but hear nothing but good things about them. My neighbor is a very nice guy and in the winter uses his pickup with a plow attachment to plow our street when VDOT doesn't get to it. To me that's a good sign of a nice person!

I would tell you with all the times we've used services... they all take time to start having really sustained effects. You really have to have at least one full season to have the weeding and fullness to settle in. Sure you'll see more green, etc early.. but for the healthy nature... that takes time.

Like msflynn said.. we use ProLawn now and had at the last house as well. It's been worth it, and their 'system' seems to get the job done reasonably well.

Just want to write about the recent experience I had with Scott's. In September they came by door to door and I decided to sign up for one treatment. I have the receipt and I told them I just wanted the one for now. I'm in a corner townhouse so it is $40.

I then receive a notice that they guy signed me up for the next service so I called to cancel that. I figured that could have been an honest mistake.

I received a bill for $40 yesterday claiming that they had already done the second treatment. The funny thing is the bill showed the first treatment being on the day I signed up for service.

I called today to tell them that I think they are trying to rip me off and a manager is supposed to call me back.

I figured Scotts is a well known name and reputable. I should have known to never sign up for something via door to door selling....lesson learned.
