I am sure this is not a surprise to a few folks but the Shoppers Food Warehouse in Ashburn Farm will be closing for good on Feb 14.

Really? I'm surprised, I probably can guess why but it's one of the cleanest Shopper's around. They're location sucks though.

    Where'd you hear about this?

That is too bad, especially since they had a post office branch in there (the main PO for Ashburn is a pain to get in and out of). They had good prices and a good selection, though the location was not the best as PowerPlay says. Between all the new stores going in (Bloom off of Belmont Ridge, HT in Brambleton, Broadlands, Goose Creek and Moorefield Station plus Wegman's) something had to give.

Say it isn't so! Their Colossal Donuts are the best around!!! Now we will really need the Dunkin Donuts to be completed. They do have some of the best prices around on items that are prepackaged namebrand groceries (and don't spoil). This will probably allow the Giants and Others to raise their prices.

Dunkin Donuts doesn't even come close to Shopper's Colossal Donuts. Darn!

The only grocery store in the area I have ever seen busy is Wegmans and now another one is about to open in Leesburg... I won't be surprised to see several other stores closing their doors this year.

When I'm not shopping at Wegmans or Costco, my second choice is Giant, followed by Harris Teeter, Bloom, and Safeway. I shopped at SFW once and got some bad pork, even though the expiration date was a few days away, so I never went back, except to use the Post Office.

It's in Ashburn Farm on the corner of Ashburn Farm Blvd. and Ashburn Road.

Is it just that one store closing or all of them?

To satisfy the need for a Post Office branch, the owner of the Total Package posted to the forum that the store was an authorized shipping center for the Post Office. The Total Package is Independently and family owned and operated, so you'd be giving business to a locally owned store while avoiding the Ashburn Post Office. The Total Package is located near Panera Bread.

That's similar to other postal places though where you pay a higher fee to ship things. They charge extra on top of the postage.

Very true. However, I must say that the guy that's ALWAYS at the PostNet in Ashbrook by A.C. Moore has really gone the extra mile to help me in the past. When he estimated the shipping cost for something I had it was very high. When I commented on it he told me that part of the higher price was the large box I had used. He went in the back and found a smaller box for me to use for free (it was a used box). That lowered the rate substantially enough and he worked hard enough that I happily paid slightly more to mail it there than at the post office. He's been very helpful other times, too.

Back on topic, I don't shop at Shoppers very often but it was nice to have them there for their good meat prices.

I have to give a shout out to the UPS Store in Southern Walk. Ron is always so cheerful & helpful. The other day he saw me coming across the parking lot and met me at the door with my mail. Now that's customer service! He even leaves a lollipop in our mailbox at all times in case I have my 4 year old with me while picking up my stuff.

Umm..haven't been to Shopper's in years. Just to keep on topic...

Ron's UPS store is truly the best. They suggested a way to save money on my regular copy jobs when they didn't have to do that, and have gone way out of their way to provide top service.

Yeah, I think customer service is the only real draw to using a mailing place like that.

Oh and to stay on topic: mmmmm....donuts!

I'm putting a big shout out to Ron and his crew at the UPS Store in Southern Walk. I've been having to ship boxes out almost on a weekly basis recently and they are always so efficient and friendly. I'm in/out in a couple minutes and they take care of everything I need. Next time you need to ship something out, go check them out.

Now, if only they had donuts....

In regards to the closing of the Shopper's store; any hint or rumor as to what will happen to the space or if they have anyone lined up to move in?

As much as I love donuts as well--DD please come soon-- I must also give a big "2 thumbs up" for Ron at the UPS Store. Not only is he and his staff always helpful, so pleasant and willing to help you with your packing needs, he is BIG supporter of our local schools and teams. He worked hand in hand last year with the Hillside 5th graders for the Book Donation drive that gave over 3500 books to needy schools in other parts of VA and is a large sponsor for our CSL and ODSL Broadlands Piranhas Swim Teams. Ron and the UPS store run a great business and are a great neighbor.
