Seems all my maples in the front yard are sick or dying, so are the trees in neighbors yards. These are the original trees planted by the builder and the HoA, and right now I'm looking at having to replace most of them.

Anyone have any idea what could cause this, is there a "maple killing bug" going around?

Haven't seen a living thing that was ever planted by a builder that lasted...they just plop them in without treating the soil, etc. Always add extra $$ for landscaping needs when buying a new place..you'll always need it[V]

All of the maples that VM planted in the fall on our street (Larchmont) are leafing out very nicely--except ours. Everyone's has had opening leaf buds and small leaves for about two weeks. We've got a few open leaves on the end of our branches, but that's it. I did notice that when they planted it it was nearly on top of the Miss Utility line that had been painted. In fact, it shocked me that they dug so close (1 or 2) inches from those marked lines. So, I suspect the roots are having a hard time growing--its also probably been plopped in on a pile of building rubble. We're going to call VM today and see what they say. If they do agree to replace it, its going to have to be situated somewhere else. I also think they we're a bit nuts to plant maples this close to everone's sidewalks. In 20 years the sidewalks are going to be destroyed by the roots.

I believe the location is a county requirement ... so many feet away from the curb ... I agree, the sidewalks will probably need to have areas replaced.
