Can anyone recommend someone to repair siding? Our normal repair guy seems to be MIA/no-show.

    Thanks

In response to your query on vinyl siding and roofing, when we built our modular home recently; we used Tom Hoover who owns Hoover Construction. He also does roofing, siding (all kinds), and replacement windows. His office number is (703) 222-5575. Tom also does a gutterless system better than that Gutter Helmet. His crew is neat and courteous. He also can install an ice sheet dam which is a plastic lining that sheds water away from your roofline. It keeps the ice and snow from damming up on the rooflines. It costs generally $100 for about 2000 sq. ft house roughly. It goes on top of the underlayment after the felt is installed and before the roof shingles are done on the new roof. You should use ALCOA siding and CertainTeed Roofing products.

I was a sales manager at Georgia Pacific (wholesale building products for a little over 15 years) so I know about the building products. Tom guarantees his work and if you have siding missing from a storm damage or any other repair it is free of charge. Alcoa has a lifetime warranty. He fixed ours with no problems. He is a general contractor and has a separate crew for roofing, siding, etc. Great workers and work. To put on top of line siding and foam insulation, new roof with new plywood, 30# felt, Ice sheet dam, new drip resistant Velux skylights--it costs us about $40,000 but that depends on square footage of home (and that includes a gutterless system.) Meaning that we had debris free gutters. It took about 3-5 days depending on what needed to be done.

If you decide you wish more info--email or post me and we can contact you. Tom has been in business 20 years plus. We got a fourth referral for him from the Roofing Center in Manassas. Our house is over 4000 sq. feet. So the prices may be slightly higher now. We did this over 5 years ago.

    Thanks,

Since our house is over 4000 sq feet, I can tell you of some local siding contractors that GA Pacific recommends. I just thought I would post this again concerning siding, roofing, etc.

Since Tom did great work for us in the past, I thought this might be of interest to fellow homeowners.

Tom Hoover's phone numbers are as follows:

    Office Phone # (703) 222-5575
    Cell Phone # (703) 932-4455

We had a great experience with Home Kim Siding (703-330-3300). We went through quite a few who couldn't fix a leak first, and they were the ones who finally fixed it, and did it right away for a good price.

    Been very happy with http://www.anexterior.com/

They repaired a leak over the front porch due to an ice dam. They also replaced some gutters and flashing. Theses guys responded quicky and did a very nice job. Someone else on the forums just used them and were happy with their work.

Whoever you choose, make sure you pick them after getting several bids. The range of costs is tremendous.

    Re: Siding Repair/Information

    Fellow Homeowners--

Here is a reminder for you to check out Tom Hoover for siding and roofing as well as other homeowner work. He helped us when we built our home over 5 years ago. Check out my 03/13/06 and 11/01/06 posts under this thread called "Siding Repair...".

    Tom Hoover's info is below--

    Office (703) 222-5575
    Cell (703) 932-4455

If you did not get an immediate callback--keep trying. He is so busy and will return your calls. For those of you thinking about replacing siding with housewrap products, think about using a foilfaced insulation on top of your plywood siding (if it is in good condition--Tom can help you determine if it a viable option). He is fair, neat, and courteous plus has an excellent crew with great cleanups before, during, and after the construction work is completed.

Here is where you can view the Certainteed, Alcoa, and other products with web sites/info for your perusual. I formerly was a sales manager at GA Pacific in metro Atlanta, GA areas (seems like a lifetime ago--sans kids) so I do know about what I speak of.

www.roofcenter.com (Roofing Center's web site/info. Closest location is Manassas, VA area. Phone number and hours are--(703) 393-9171 and open 6:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday. Great resources.)

Any questions feel free to PM or post here.

We just used An Exterior for a small job (we had a few patches of missing siding from when we redid our patio). Since it was a small job, we had trouble finding someone willing to take the job.

We called An Exterior and they came out right away. But the guy that came out was extremely disorganized. He came out three times to take measurements and check the color - and it wasn't because he wanted to be sure, it was because he didn't do it correctly the first time. And then another time he showed up because he couldn't fine our phone number - even though he had called us that morning (apparently, he got confused as to who we were). the whole thing was very strange.

About three weeks later, we got fed up with this guy not calling back to put us on the schedule, so we called the main office. Another man came out - I think it was the owner - because he said the first guy didn't put the right info down (surprise). He told me he would call me tomorrow, that the job shouldn't be a problem.

WELL.... This morning, I realized I hadn't heard from the guy yet - even though it had been 4 days. I was about to call them and get nasty, but I looked outside and the job was done. I have no idea when they did it, or how long it took, or what happened - but now I have a finished project.

So all in all, the job looks great. Good price. Worst customer service and strangest interaction I have ever had.
