This weekend the Silver Eagle Group is opening the indoor training facility at Beaumeade Industrial Park. Saturday and Sunday they are having an open house with a bunch of free demos and stuff. It looks like a really nice facility, they have two 25 yard shooting ranges and a 50 yard range, one of the 25 yard one is a tactical movement range.

Unfortunately the website doesn't say anything about the cost of membership, but it looks expensive. We'll be going, it will be nice to have a range so close to home. The URL is silvereagle-group.com.

Looks really nice. Did you notice the Founder level includes 2 guns, monthly car detailing, laundry and gun cleaning services? I am very curious to see what this costs. I may have to check this out this weekend.

I fear that this facility will try to mimic what the defunct golf course tried to do. In looking at the website there seems to be a lot of stuff that your normal gun nut would not be interested in. I am sure that this country club with a range (which it appears to be) will be expensive!!!!!

But we will check it out. It would be nice to have one so close. BRA is a bit of a drive.

    ((Mercenaries have to train somewhere!))

Those 'mercenaries' you cite are local and state law enforcement who will benefit by having an indoor scenario area in which to train and therefore save your lilly-white *** when you call 9-1-1 ...

In a perfect world we would not need this venue. We do not live in a perfect world.

My take -- place is a joke.

The person here that said the annual pass is $100 is WRONG.

It is $100/year PLUS $35/month = $520. You can save $200 by getting an annual pass at NRA (http://www.nrahq.org/shootingrange/nrahqrange/fees.asp)

By the way, their newspaper ad stated One-Time Annual Pass discounts but yet their 'membership expert' on site had no idea what I was talking about.

The Founders membership is $50,000 one time fee for individuals PLUS $350/month.

They touted that as the "like a country club" membership. To me the place needs a lot of work to be that. The members area is rough around the edges, even the paint in the members foyer (grey and black stripes) looks as though it is done by 1st graders. Should paint matter when I want to shoot my gun? No. But it does if you want $50,000 from me and pretend to be a country club.

Their day passes are $25/per hour but you can only do this twice per month - so says their rate sheet right in front of me. Again, compare to NRA at $14 or $18 (non-NRA Members). You can even get cheaper at Blue Ridge, granted blue Ridge cant compare in terms of quality range to either.

Selection of handguns was lacking. Keep in mind I said selection, not quality. They had Sig, Kimber, S&W and they had HK in the back, but the selection was lacking. I mark this to just opening, I'm sure they will have better selection soon. But again, it will be hard to surpass the level of selection and knowledge at say a Virginia Arms.

Anyway, yes I sound bitter and that is because I find it funny that a place, in this economic time, would push country club style memberships and dues and on top of that have a facility (excluding the range facility) that is barely more than nice furniture in a warehouse.

You have to be a special person to need a weight room and board room access to spend that money for membership. Plus if you have $50,000 to drop on one-time fee and $350/month, wouldn't you already have a weight room in your house and/or a pool table:)

At the end of it all, I hope they do survive for no other reason then I love the sport of shooting, but I think the concept needs work. They will have to rework their day pass cost structure to get me in there at least.

    Just my own personal $.02.

    Thanks for the information :)

That is a lot of money when all I am looking for is a nice indoor shooting range.

Guess I will go back to BRA. Less than $300 per year for unlimited shooting and they have clean bathrooms. what more can a shooter want? :)

I was overal disappointed as well. Seemed like they did not have enough staff to help people who came in door, was pretty disorganized. I walked around for a little while trying to find someone to answer questions. I gave up trying to see the ranges after could not find anyone to help me. Finally found someone who gave me pricing information. For now I'll stick to the NRA range, there employee's are helpful and it is cheaper.

    Ozgood-
I recommend trying the NRA range out if you want high quality. I haven't gone back to Blue Ridge in Chantilly since I went to the NRA.

You do not need to be an NRA member to go, though you range fee is cheaper if you are a card carrying member. Even if you aren't though, it is cheaper than BR.

I was told by the BR owners that they were investing money in new lane equipment, unless that has happened in the past 4 months, I can't say the facilities at BR are anything better than mediocre.

If they have upgraded then I'll reserve judgement until I go back. But the last time I was there the aircon and filtration didn't even work. My eye protection fogged up after 5 min. and it was stuffier than a humid summer day in there.

Anyway, I'm interested to see how Silver Eagle does, my bet is they will bring down prices if they want normal business to stay afloat.

I am so disappointed to hear all that. We didn't get a chance to go this weekend, but I was really looking forward to getting a nice, affordable range in this area. I don't want a country club shooting range, I want a nice shooting range with decent amenities that works for the hobbyist as well as for the mercenary. I don't shoot for self defense, I do it for fun and to see how well I can do.

The owners of the range may want to look at the golf club and see what happened to them. They didn't go down because there are a gazillion golf clubs. They went down because people can't afford that kind of money anymore, companies can't afford that kind of money anymore. I would highly recommend to them to rework their business model if they don't want to go bankrupt before they really open.

I wonder if their business model isn't based on government contracting and corporate work. They have advertised it as a state of the art training facility (they are affiliated with MVM). So the individual offerings may just be for if people are willing to pay, they can use. But maybe their bread and butter is corporate/ government training.

mdcrim, You may be right. From the design of their website, it appears that the "public" business is a sideline. Maybe (and I hope so) they already have the necessary government (federal/state/local) training contracts in place to pay the bills.

But if they are expecting the public to be the majority of their business, I think they will be disappointed.
