Unfortunately, they really don't plan on catering to the public like we'd all hope. They are mainly looking for Gov't contracts and and security firms, mainly theirs. It's sad that they did all that and we really need a good range in Loudoun County open to the public, like say the NRA and BRA.

Any ranges in the Leesburg area and points north? BRA is a bit of a drive.

I am afraid that I need to wimp out and insist on an indoor range. My outside shooting days are over. :)

NRA and BRA is all we have for indoor ranges.

I think.. and i could be wrong, that one of the gun stores also had an indoor range but it burned down this year. for some reason I want to say Virginia Arms, but again I could be totally wrong. it was in Manassas from what i heard, so not any closer.

The facility in Woodbridge that burned down was Shooters Paradise. The Silver Eagle Group facility was a little rough around the edges, but still nicer than a lot of places I've been. I'll be interested in seeing how it shapes up for the main opening in January. There were a couple of things I definately did not like, but maybe they'll recognize them and make corrections. Several people, myself included, had difficulty with sights because the line didn't have enough light. Once they get the ranges fully programmed it will be an awsome facility for practicing tactical. The RO's and RSO's were really nice. The CRSO on Range 1 took time to help several new shooters and work with a couple of right handed/left eye dominate people. He had a lot of equipment failures with the target carriers too. Yet he was in control of the range at all times.
As far as other places to shoot - how about the IWL down 28 off of Mt. Olive Rd? Their membership is less than $200 a year and includes trap, skeet, rifle, pistol and several archery ranges. Plus fishing. Almost everything is outside, but there are heated range houses for warming up.

IWL is a bit more of a commitment than $200/year. You expected to go and work on the facilities so many hours per year & on designated work days. Not saying it's a bad thing, just be prepared for that if you sign up.

IWL Trivia: Many of the major structures (the Trap/Skeet shelters, the club house expansion, etc.) were either built for or are maintained by the local Boy Scouts as Eagle projects or OA Duties.

Please allow me to clarify a few things. I am an avid enthusiast of the shooting sports and a lifetime member of the NRA. Beside sleeping in a Holiday Inn last night, I am also the Director of Training at Silver Eagle Group.

One of my main reasons for taking this position was to make the range available to the public. Yes, we want Gov't contracts, but trust me those hours will not interfere with the publics range hours. Yes, we have an exclusive membership program with lots of amenities to go along with it. BUT we also have very affordable programs, to include daily passes and annual memberships. VERY competitive to other local ranges.

I have already spoke to interested parties about running shooting sports competitions and we even sponsor an Olympic caliber athlete in one of the shooting events. SHE smokes the rest of us

If you have questions about rates, please contact the range and ask. If you have questions about training or shooting events please come by the range and ask to speak with the Director Of Training. You'd be surprised how quickly he stops what he is doing to help out the public.

The best times to reach me are during the day.

If you have issues, then bring them to my attention and I will try to rectify them. It is a new range, so there will be some problems (initially), but I want it to be an open and friendly environment.

I've read a few posts about the issues during our opening weekend. This was our PREVIEW and there were over a THOUSAND people that came in. I'm sure that we were a little rough around the edges but that will change.

If you want a cheaper range in the area I suggest the NRA  Great people and great organization, BUT good luck getting a lane. Check their range hours and then actually call them on it.

Check out what some other people had to say about the range:

Thanks, S.E.G. Appreciate your taking time to respond .... When I was out there one of your reps said it was a preview and that there would be much more in the retail space by time you open in January ...

Your website says you are open now? What are the range hours?

    S.E.G.,

    Thanks for your response.

Is your retail area going to be open to the public or do you have to be a member to purchase firearms or firearm related stuff?

Also, are you planning on offering firearm consignment or trade ins or selling used firearms (like Loudoun Guns)?

    Thanks!

    mdcrim,

Yes, we will sell firearms and related items to the public. Additionally we will buy/sell used guns, just like any other gun store. Come in and check us out.

THANK YOU, S.E.G. Like any new enterprise, there will be bugs to work out. I felt it was a great opening event and look forward to the future. Best of luck!

Not quite right. There is a work requirement upon INITIAL membership, but it is not an annual requirement. Running all the IWL ranges is dependent upon volunteers, so if you want to become a Range Officer or Range Safety Officer you can provide that service periodicly. And, like any similar organization, they are always looking for people for positions on the Board, etc.

I, personally, think this place is a rip off. The cost is outrageous! They only provide discounts to local law enforcement, nothing for federal. That doesn't make any sense. It would be nice to have a place close by that a federal agent can practice, but this place won't get our business.

Oh, and the place is very loud compaired to the BRA.

    Napper,

I'm sorry that you feel this way, BUT you are in Northern VA. Our prices are comparable to other LOCAL ranges. We are slightly higher in cost, but only due to our SAFETY specifications and our ventilation system. We offer discounts to LOCAL Law Enforcement for a reason. They do NOT get paid as much as Federal. Houses are sold to LOCAL Law Enforcement for the same reason.

We are not taking anything away from Federal Agencies, but the bottom line is that our Local Law Enforcement guys are NOT given enough credit for the great job that they do.

You don't have to practice at our range. You are more than welcome to wait an hour for an open lane at other places. Additionally, you are more than welcome to breath in massive amounts of lead at other facilities.

I'm sure that our facility seemed loud to some, but we did NOT have the sound proofing boards in yet. Even then we were below the standard.

I'll be the first to admit that nothing is perfect and we are no exception. We will only get better with time. We are a NEW facility and we WILL have our growing pains. My goal is to try and work through them and offer a SAFE and friendly environment to our local community.

    Thank for responding SEG.

I look forward to your retail section being open and can't wait to see the new items.

Until you guys reduce your normal lane fee though, I will have to leave my opinion at them not being priced fair for the area.

$25/hour isn't close to $14/$18 for NRA lanes (member/non-member). And suffice it to say, I've not waited more than 20 min. for a lane at NRA, including the Sunday after Thanksgiving in which people were in line and in the waiting room.

If your retail prices are competitive then I'll be happy to patronize your store. I look forward to seeing what you have available.

Disagree, and BRA is just as loud and the ventilation systems there stinks.

SEG, Thank you for being a close alternative. I look forward to utilizing your facility for my lead delivery equipment.

    a4guy,

Our retail section is OPEN. Swing by and check it out.

You are correct that the NRA range lanes are cheaper, BUT other ranges in the area charge more than the NRA. Additionally our prices are slightly higher because of our state of the art target systems and safety specifications. See our website under "Facility" for specific info.

Please feel free to stop by and I will gladly show you around.:)

    Hey SEG -

DO you give discounts for Loudoun Fire and Rescue as well as Law enforcement? There are many of us that carry as well, and some for the job, like the Fire Marshall.

    Thanks -
    Brewer
