Why is there so much traffic??? Unbelievable
What is the best way to get to West Ox from Broadlands without waiting in that 30 minute traffic holdup on Waxpool. Not even going 2 miles.

i will pay  for secrets

If you're willing to pay... take the greenway.

Waxpool is so busy because it is the only non-toll road between 7 and 50 which takes you east/toward DC.

Well, you could pay for the Toll then... I think that might be the quickest way.. I really don't know other than waxpool to Rt. 28.

While west ox road is closer to the greenway/toll road, it is not all that far from route 50.

Since I boycott the Greenway, I take the back roads to Route 50 and then down to Route 28. Traffic is a piece of cake with the only problems being somtimes the trucks on Route 50 slows things down.

I don't know exactly where you need to go, but if you don't want to fight waxpool traffic and you are like me and want to boycott the Greenway, the only other choices we have are route 7 and route 50.

Friends don't let friends drive on the Greenway. :)

depending on what time you get there, LCP to 28 isn't always horrible. when the line up to too long, i turn left, go to Cafe Rumi for a pastry and free cup of coffee (shamless plug for my fave cafe!) then get into the fray just before that light. but yesterday around 7:45am, the line up wasn't bad at all- one light cycle is all it took to get onto Waxpool. left home at 7:30, dropped the kid at school, in Centreville by 8:12am.

word to the wise- you CAN turn left off of shellhorn onto LCP without waiting for traffic heading toward waxpool- there is a THIRD lane that starts at that intersection so you can turn onto the road without fear if you go to the inside-most lane.

but the Greenway backs up too. Pointless to pay the toll only to sit in the same amount of traffic.

I am coming from Arbors at Broadlands, right across from Fishbone. I usualy head down towards either LCP or go down past sprint and get on waxpool there.

I work in Herndon, Worldgate plaza which has a exit right there off the toll road but that would only be Green Way from where im coming from

You can also go down evergreen mills and then to old ox to herndon, but I think that backs up too from the south riding and brambleton folks. Kind of a long way around, but if the other roads a really backed up...

waxpool/waxpool is the absolute WORST way to get on waxpool! that light is short, only one turn lane and sooo much traffic... ugh. i hate that road.

try LCP- even if you hit the line up the light is longer and it moves faster...

You might want to indicate your 'commuting times', since they could impact your route options...

I think you mean BONEfish and VERIZON, not sprint :)

Where Worldgate is, you can easily cut through Herndon as an option for no tolls. But its not quicker, just consistent and toll-free.

From Arbors head out Broadlands Blvd, turn right on Ashburn Rd. Turn left on Waxpool, turn right at Shellhorn and go down past Home Depot. Turn left on LCP. At the light, turn right on waxpool, head out to Rt 28.

From there, either get on old ox towards Herndon, or goto the Tollroad.

I take waxpool to Broderick and cut through to Old Ox. No traffic at all except to get to Brokerick. But that's probably not the side of Old Ox you're going to.

It was particularly bad today on LCP. Maybe if some people get another economic stimulus check they can use it on the Greenway and get out of my way on the free roads. I need every penny so that it can be redistributed. :D

Horrible today. Just horrible. But I'm just not gonna cave and take that darn Greenway unless I'm desperate.

Yes sir thats my alternate route and now that I hear waxpool/waxpool is the worst i will no longer go past Verizon. the light is way too short and people are way too shy to pull out. :blahblah:

horrible backup today due to onlookers of a accident on waxpool right before target. just wanted to thank you all for your responses. have a good day

You're leaving right at the height of rush hour down Waxpool. I leave the house normally at 6am because I use the gym where I work, but days that I don't work out, I usually leave the house around 7:15 and it's pretty good, not horrible anyway. Is there a chance you can leave any earlier?

Changing your time of commute is probably the best (and sometimes only) influence you can have on your commute.

For my commute, if I alter my departure time, it has a significant impact on my commute. I leave 10 minutes later and I may have an extra 30 minutes in traffic. :(

So it is not necessary to leave your house an hour before your usual time, sometimes just leaving 15 minutes sooner can have a significant effect on shortening your commute.

this is SO ture- 7:35am is VASTLY different than 7:50am on LCP.

and- it gives you time to stop for coffee and a pastry somewhere along the way... hmmm... any ideas whaere you might get a freshly baked Eurpoean style pastry in Ashburn alongside a free 12 oz. coffee...? it's on the tip of my tongue... hmmm.

    <insert whistling innocent emoticon here!>

    Heh.
I'm coming off of Village Dr, usu. around 6-6:30 am.
I loop by the Broadlands South marketplace, left on Shellhorn out to LCP, to Waxpool, then to 28. Then to the Toll Road. I just can't bring myself to pay the Greenway fine-- errr, toll-- for driving under 5 miles of roadway unless I'm in a rush and need to save the 5-10 minutes that the roundabout way adds to my commute.

The greenway reminds me of the robber barons of the Rhine in old Germany... meh.
